Well, over 100 hours now without power! Folks on my street have actually gotten out of their houses and met each other! As I write this it's Monday morning, and I am at the office on my lap top, so I shall be brief!

Give us your stories reference the outage, we sure could use a laugh by now. Until the power is restored (main lines are down,)I shall sign off secure in the knowledge that others will take up the banner until my return.

HOT! HOT! HOT! That about covers it. Incredibly, the news says only 4 deaths have occured in all this. The four days we endured the heat really made us realize how good we folks have it here. The hot weather made us feel a little sick, nothing major. How we loved to have been told there was a 'cooling area' at the government center. How sad we here don't have some sort of organization to get out and see if older sick people are okay. Our alderman called to see if we were doing okay and needed anything. If you needed some attention, did anyone call to see if you were doing okay? We've heard some really angry complaints that nobody here seems to be organized at all. Where do you stand on this?

We do have an organization to check on the older people--they are called "neighbors." We have several older folks on our block and the younger people checked on the older people to make sure they were okay and cared for. Why does it have to be the responsibility of some organization?

I don't know why we need organized groups to do the 'right thing' but not all people are as caring as you apparently are and you are to be commended! However, we do have such a group and they volunteered to do this; so if you volunteer to do something I would hope you would do what you promised. Just a comment as I have heard many say no one called to inquire. Nothing more. Didn't mean to rile you up.

We do not need committies, groups, watch's or any thing more than we experienced during this power outage.

What we need, is what we saw, neighbor helping neighbor. Someone going on an ice run with a few coolers, and a truck. Someone re-charging a air conditioner, low on refigerant, the police asking if all was well.

Folk's, this is the Crestwood we all remember, and loved when we moved here! I am glad I got to see it once again!
