A man walked into a very high-tech bar. As he sat down on a stool he noticed that the bartender was a robot. The robot clicked to attention and asked, "Sir, what will you have?"
The man thought a moment then replied, "A martini please."
The robot clicked a couple of times and mixed the best martini the man had ever had.
The robot then asked, "Sir, what is your IQ?"
The man answered "Oh, about 164."
The robot then proceeded to discuss the 'theory of relativity', inter-stellar space travel', 'the latest medical break throughs, etc.......
The man was most impressed. He left the bar but thought he would try a different tact. He returned and took a seat. Again the robot click ed and asked what he would have. "A Martini please."
Again it was superb. The robot again asked "What is your IQ, sir?"
This time the man answered, "Oh, about 100". So the robot started discussing Nascar racing, the latest basketball scores, and what to expect the Dodgers to do this week end.
The guy had to try it one more time. So he left, returned and took a stool.
.. Again a martini, and the question, "What is your IQ?"??
This time the man drawled out " Uh..... bout 50".
The robot clicked then leaned close and very slowly asked,
"A-r-e? y-o-u-r? p-e-o-p-l-e??? g-o-i-n-g?
t-o?? n-o-m-i-n-a-t-e? H-i-l-l-a-r-y-????

"The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee"

When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.
"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things--your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.
The sand is everything else---the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked.
It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

You got me, I guess they must overlap or something. Where does the county tax bill get mailed? That should be the pool address.

Hummmmm! I have been reading the St. Louis County property tax records reference 1475 So. Sappington. This is very interesting to say the least.

After having read these records, I am more convinced than ever that the TDD can't include the pool. Why you say? Well because the property is listed as a swimming pool, not a "parking lot", and as we all know, a swimming pool is not qualified under the TDD rules. I will deliver these records to the TDD comission for their edification.

For sone time now there has been an on-going discussion about who is going to pay for the swim club pool.

I, along with others have been told that the TDD had nothing to do with the pool. I had some extra time today, so I looked up the BOA vote on this project. May I direct your attention to page 23 (paragraph's 5-7,) of the minutes of the BOA where Mr. Leichliter stated flatly that the money would actually come from a sales tax that would only be placed on Kohl's. He satated that this was not a TIF fund.
He then states that a TDD would be set up to collect 3/8 cent sales tax that would pay off the TDD. That sounds to me like a TDD would be used to re-emburse someone, no?

When talking about the TDD and the Crestwood Point project, I wish you would refrain from bring the Crestwood Swim Club into the conversation.

The property involved with the TDD is owned by THF. Why they needed that parcel and if they would get reimbursed or not does not involved Crestwood Swim Club.

As far as the comments regarding Crestwood Swim Club being a private entity, look around. All over St. Louis there are private clubs. What's the deal? Because this club likes to swim instead of playing golf? I don't think you have to be sponsored to get into the Swim Club, like a country club. Get a grip on the "private" thing.

I am confused about your continued vendetta, really, against the swim club. There are many of your Crestwood friends, neighbors and fellow parishioners (your wife's) that are members of that pool. If you really think it is a bunch of elitists...think again. In fact, your little grandkids might even like it up there? WHy all the effort and energy trying to pull it out of the TDD...like it even matters or will make a difference. VERY STRANGE.

Read the post before yours, Why do I do this? Well, I have a problem with money that should be going to Crestwood, going to any developer to pay for a private pool, or a private anything else for that matter, plain and simple.

If it's out, and I don't have to pay 3/8 cent sales tax extra at Kohls, I, and a lot of other folks will be happy. And since you have assured me that it won't matter to the pool, woulden't it be a good idea for the pool to ask that it be removed?

Were any of the other properties acquired by THF owned by private individuals or private companies? Just courious.

10:38 PM, September 05, 2006
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why, I am sure the were owned by both parties, but I bet none of them were private swim clubs, nor were they expecting a TDD to finance a swimming pool.

If they were "private entities" they benefited by the TDD. So what is the difference. The pool needed to move so Kohl's would even entertain the idea of coming to Crestwood. All "private" parties were bought out. It was THF's decision how much to offer the "private" owners. If you don't remember, Kohl's insisted on more than ample parking spaces. (more than needed by the city or county). They obviously wanted to obtain that property for additional parking which was essential to Koh;'s. THF opted to offer enough so the pool could relocate.

Why do they need two meetings?

They operate as one entity with the city of Crestwood.

Was there any public officials present in these meetings?

I think there is a triangle illusion with Rosebrook Real Estate Company, Crestwood Swim Club and the city of Crestwood.

Who owns what and where does the visible or invisible line begin and end?

Where does the TDD boundary start and end? How can the TDD boundary jump around to include additional property like the Crestwood Swim Club?

It helps to have Rosebrook Stockholders on the Board of Alderman.

Gary Vincent or a new Board of Alderman?

It is amazing when they found a pot of gold with a TDD to build a new pool, when the "old pool was never to be touched."

How many parking spaces did Kohl's actually need for their store?

Some of the government documents show different numbers.

I guess the paperwork is meaningless and worthless because of who is in power!

How can you justify selling TDD bonds for Missouri State Road Improvements to buy out a $88,000 blighted pool for $850,000 or more?

What was the exact price or money that Rosebrook Real Estate/Crestwood Swim Club actually receive to build their new pool from the TDD, CID, and the TIF? $1.4 million? $2.3 million? or a blank check by the citizens of Crestwood?

Save your pennies while you pay for three swimming pools in Crestwood with your sales tax.
Whitecliff Pool
Lindbergh High School Pool
Crestwood Swim Club

Which pool is owned by the city of Crestwood? Is all three?
