State representative Patrick James Murphy (ret.) in hospital!

Mr. Murphy has suffered a broken left hip in a fall two days ago. The operation to repair the damage was very successful, and he may be moved to St. Mary's (Ortho. rehab,) on Saturday, or Sunday if the progress continues!

For now you can call his room (966-1500, St. Joseph's Hospital, Kirkwood, room 3116.) I would call before you visit as he is still somewhat sedated from the operation, and you don't want to miss seeing, and talking to him.

Please join my family, and I in a prayer for his speedy recovery.

Is it true that SSM St. Joseph's is kicking out Mr. Murphy without rehab?

Mr. Murphy was the one who fought for rehab as a Missouri State Represenative.

Is it true that SSM St. Joseph's Hospital only takes certain patients in their rehab to make their statistics look good to the State of Missouir?

What happened to their Catholic Values of Respect for Life?

10:44 am I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to start the Murphy Bashing Party. 10:41 AM 2/11 No Mr. Murphy isn't being kicked out of SSM St. Joseph's but I hear they have a wonderful area for the mentally unstable. Why don't you check yourself in.

Mr. Murphy was working in his basement which is where the accident happened.

Mr. Murphy has been transfered to St. mary's Hospital in Clayton for extensive re-hab for the hip. As I understand it, they have a much better facility for orthopedic work.

As far as the mental health ward goes, well I'll leave it up to you to tell us if that works for you or not.

Like him, or hate him, Jim Murphy has done a lot for this town, so it woulden't hurt to send him a get well card, I bet he would do it for you!!

Hi Tom and Everyone,

Just to give an update, Dad is currently at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kirkwood in Room 3116. He was working on some floor trim at the house Tuesday afternoon (two days after his 82nd birthday!). As he tried to get up, his leg gave out and he landed on his left side breaking his left hip – almost two years to the date he broke his right hip! He had surgery Wednesday morning and is recovering well.

Early this morning, he developed severe pain in his left calf muscle. After some tests, it was determined he had a blood clot in his left leg. They were going to transport him to a rehabilitation facility (SSM or somewhere else) but from discussions this morning, it looks like he will be staying at St. Joseph’s at least for a few more days until some blood thinners take effect.

Tom, thanks to you for posting this nice note, and thanks to all of you who have visited, called, e-mailed, or responded on this blog. Your thoughts, warm wishes, and prayers are sincerely appreciated.

Of course, sincere thanks and appreciation go to Crestwood Firefighters, Paramedics, and the Police Department. Their response time, as always, was phenomenal. From the time I dialed 911 to their arrival was approximately 2 ½ to 3 minutes. All emergency personnel were caring, supportive, and fast-acting. Their terrific service and compassion helped not only Dad but the rest of his family, and for that we are truly grateful.

While we have our political issues (as does every community), it is great to live in a community whose people and emergency services are so very caring and supportive when an emergency strikes.

Again, thanks to you all.

Sincerely,
Jim Murphy (Jr)
