Crestwood BOA meeting on 6/25/07 (interesting.)

From what I gather from my "cub reporter's" the meeting had a few bumps in the road. One of the major ones was the THF Realty Co. coming back for an extra 42K for the Kohl's / swim club deal. It seems that Mr. Klarr feels that that if the TDD can't do it, let's go for the TIF!

Now that's a rather novel idea to have us tax payers cough up the loot, but due to the diligent work by a few, it failed the first reading! I believe Martha Duchild deserves a great deal of credit for explaining that while legal, it's still wrong!

Our City attorney said it was legal, Mr. Klarr said it was legal, but the board saw through the smoke to see what was in fact the right thing to do, and killed it for now! (write your Alderman, tell him how you feel about this travesty!)

The one thing that really bothers me in this entire mess is our new C/A pushing for this! Frank, why is that? The City has nothing to gain here, we have nothing to gain here, so what's your sudden interest in this fiasco all about?

While I am at it Frank, why are people telling me that your having meetings with the Alderman outside City hall? I just would like to point out that "lobbying" Aldermen is not part of the job description of any City Administrator I have ever heard of! I trust these "lunch's" are not on the City expense account!

That's right Tom. I was waiting for you to deflect the breaking of the Sunshine Law. Excellent job sir! Anything to put a pal out of the negative spotlight right???

Why did the City hire another economic development director?

It was supposed to be an experimental position. Never saw any debate on whether they should hire one. They just ended up backfilling.

"deflect breaking the sunshine law?" Did the City actually do that, or are you guessing?

All, I have seen so far is rhetoric from a local editor who is famous for hating Crestwood!

What ever happened to the "innocent until proven guilty" part of the Constitution? I think we need more facts here before we go on this "witch hunt" you seem to want to start.

Now as to Mr. Frank Myers being a target, well, no, he is not! I just want to know what's going on with the "off campus" meetings with the Alderman, don't you?

If I am paying for these lunches, I think I have a right to know where, and why, and I will continue to ask until I get an answer (and so should you!)

As far as the new hire is concerned this may be a result of the C / A thinking he needs to fill a slot, time will tell!

Why arent you asking why the mayor will not obey the State Sunshine Law while you are asking questions?

Tom,
Why don't you just pick up the phone and call your alderman and ask him why he is meeting with the C/A. Pretty simple huh?

Yes, why DID the city hire another economic development director? What did the first one do?

3:31 PM blogger, ET AL: I have two calls in for 1 Alderman and the mayor, and I expect to hear from them soon.

What I don't understand is why your not interested in any of these meetings.

If Mayor Robinson was doing this you would have a fit, but he isn't! What I am saying is let's get this in the open! You want "sunshine?" Ask the C / A what the heck is going on!

Say what you will about Roy Robinson but he has presided over an econimic change in Crestwood that has brought us back from the FAILED policy's of the previous administration, and for that I appalaud him and the board.

You say I "drank the coolaid" but I beg to differ! I have, and will continue to call it as I see it, and not be clouded by emotions such as you all seem to be!

Your "out of the loop," your not happy about it, so you lash out, well that's your choice, but for once please think of Crestwood, and not just yourselves!

If you think the city is hiding something, then attend the meetings. If you can't attend the meetings, then request to read the minutes! It's that simple! Put your suspicious minds at rest and help move the city forward!

When there was so much complaining about 'excess employees' by the previous administration, why has Mr. Meyers hired a new economic development director, plus a new summer intern? Who approves the hiring of these positions, and what is their purpose?

Also, who, other than Meyers, reviewed the background of the new city clerk and the person they have acting as a code enforcement officer?

Will the current assistant city manager be replaced upon her departure in July?

I hope some of these off campus meetings include discussion about the necessity and qualifications of these new employees.

Yes thank goodness we have Roy up at City Hall every day watching over how our tax dollars are being spent and how the staff is operating. Look at the good news our CIty auditiors report was just recently! Balanced budgets, no longer in the red. Things are getting better every day under this mayors leadership.

The leadership is from all 9 members of the BOA. All responsible for the outcome. All who review our budget and city affairs, and all who must accept the responsibility and end result. Professional City Employees, such as the City Administrator, are the responsible party for appraising the Board of the good, the bad and the ugly. Thus, it is these shoulders reporting to the board who are the ones responsible for facts, figures and the integrity of both. If there are areas of doubt, grey areas, then it is the responsiblity of the 8 Alderman along with the Mayor to speak up, ask questions and lift the lid.

When this did not happen in the former administration, guess what, we had to have an audit, 2 audits in fact, and guess what someone dropped the ball. Someone pulled some serious wool, and mismanagement of funds was deeply woven in the fabric of city hall.

The money situation in this city is reported by the C/A and the new tax was voted in for a reason. The one thing we should not be facing any longer is a bleak bottom line. According to the local papers recently, the rainbow is a whole lot prettier. Ms Tate and Mr. Meyer bore good news, glowing predictions based on their figures. So, this surprise is a good one. Let's hope it sticks because this is the story we got.

The CA is required to present a five year city budget. I believe the previous administration advised the BOA of the deficits to come in the coming years. Did the current CA not provide a 5 year budget? How could the previous administration see the deficit coming and the new CA not??????

From the meetings I have attended, not many of the questions on this site have been asked at BOA meetings. I guess people are afraid to ask such touchy questions when the mayor is in charge of the meeting.

Why are you surprised?

THF has to get their money back from paying former Alderman Gary Vincent his $850,000!

It may be more than $850,000!

There may be a lease land deal!

Gary Vincent and Bob Golterman were Ward 2 Aldermen; P. Duwe, Ward 4; D. Kelleher, Ward 2, R. Breeding; Ward 1; C. Pickel, Ward 2 --- all members of the Crestwood Swim Club and/or Rosebrook Real Estate Co. while serving on the Crestwood Board of Aldermen and/or Planning and Zoning or both, or planning to run for office to keep the chain gang going, at the time their swim club relocated for 850,000 (assessed at 225,000) to their new spot sitting virtually in the backyards of residential neighborhool rear of city hall parking lot. A total nusiance enjoyed by members only.

Think the developer THF should have investigated this transaction and the Rosebrook lawyers prior to forking out. This info leads one directly to Industrial Airwick!

Think the sitting Aldermen who do not have to recuse themselves need to consider why they were elected and how much more of this obvious set up residents are going to put up with. Residents don't want part of the story, they want the whole story. It is not going to go away. The one that moved to S.H., has it. Let's ask him all about it.
