In an effort to keep our readers informed about South County politics, we urge you to visit the following blogs:

South County News - Operated by failed Mehlville School Board member (he was defeated by a strip club owner) Mike Heins. Heins spends most of his time blathering conspiracy theories about Call Newspapers publisher Bill Milligan.

Crestwood Independent - Operated by failed Crestwood aldermanic candidate Tom Ford. Ford is another Call Newspapers hater who is the darling of the Crestwood fire fighters union.

Mehlville Fire Protection District Information - Operated by Local 1889 president Bob Strinni. The state of the district seen through the eyes of the incompetent union bosses.

Enjoy!

The only problem with these "paragons of truth" is the fact that they do not allow a response! Well, neither did Joseph Gobels! Great job my friends, when you allow a response, I will refute you!

I just love the remarks about "failed attempts!"

The man I shall quote here said it far better than I could ever could, so.........

"Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorius triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat."

Teddy Roosevelt

When we see you on the firing line, I will be impressed. Give it a try, go ahead fail as I have many times, in many things, but I am not ashamed that I tried!

Only one thing though, you will have to give us your name, and allow responses to your comment's.

But that's no step for a stepper like you, now is it!

You "thinks?" AND WERE THE DUMB ONES? Sorry liberal, but you fit right in with the "paper" and the remainder of the folks who want only their point of view spoken!

Of course you don't want any comments allowed, you can't stand the light of truth, so it's better to stifle the comment's rather than allow someone to point it out!

If you read history that sort of behavure has been tried since the world began! The only problem for you is that every time it's tried, it get's smacked down.

Now, tell us again why they do not allow posting on that "southcountytruth" site!

Do you know the writings of the Koran, and the old Arab addage that state "The enemy of my enemy is my friend?" They do get some things right, not many, but at least this one! Ponder on that for a while.

Besides, who said he is a liberal?

Are We LIBERAL?
The South County Truth Spot has been called many things but is it LIBERAL?

According to the wise sage at the Crestwood Independent, Mr. Tom Ford, we are "group of local liberals".

Alright Mr. Ford, we do have Democrats who are "left of center" contributing to this blog. We also have Republican conservatives who write for us. We a bipartisan group.

Regardless of party affiliation we all share some basic philosophical tenets:

- We believe that local government is too expensive.

- We believe that public-sector labor unions (TruthDetector: such as the National Education Association (NEA), the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME)) are special interest groups who are only interested in obtaining unreasonably large salaries, pension and benefit packages for their members without regard to the taxpayer's ever-growing burden of tax-rate increases and reassessments.

- We believe that government must operate in the interest of the governed rather than the narrow self-interest of public employees.

- We advocate accountability, transparency and full disclosure to the public of all local government entities.

- We believe it is time for our local political subdivisions to forgo endless tax increases and live within their budgets. The taxpayer is always asked to sacrifice by our elected officials. It is time that government sacrifice higher taxes in the interest of the taxpayers ability to pay.

If the conservative Mr. Ford believes that this is a liberal agenda, we question his commitment to true conservative principles. We also question his close relationship to Democratic arch-liberal Mike Heins (TruthDetector: Heins was a former member of the Mehlville Board of Education. He was defeated in 2006 by a strip club owner. His performance in office was so poor even the Mehlville teacher's union pulled its support for his reelection) and fire fighters union Local 2665.

Mr. Ford and Mr. Heins are committed to one core idea, hatred of the Call Newspapers. Why? Because the Call focused the attention of the voters on the substandard abilities of both men to honorably serve as elected officials. We say thanks to the Call for sparing us from these "jumokes"!

Mr. Ford identified himself-his name is on the blog and his posts. Mike Heins identified himself. Tim Trueblood identified himself as well. I've heard of anonymous postings to blogs, but it is rare to see anonymous blogs.

Mr. Ford's blog has a history of allowing anonymous poster to allow a venting of steam by the people, why would you deny that same privilege to a blog?

Ok, enough is enough. If you want to call me a liberal, I can live with that, whatever, but please, how can I go on living with you calling me an arch liberal. These fellas make no sense. They tell us how horrible the NEA is and then say because I fail to get their endorsement, it's a bad thing. Could they make up their minds? I'm supposed to hate the Call because I lost an election. Silly again. I was fighting and defeating Milligan in court prior to my election. And sharing some ideas on Blogs doesn't make people buddy, buddy, but hey whatever you wanna say, your the Anonymous TruthDetector.

"It Sounds like Mr. Heins is a Few Bubbles Off"
Mike Heins' tenure on the Mehlville Board of Education was marked by many instances of bizarre behavior. Heins' use of e-mail communication was his favorite weapon of intimidation. The below coverage from the Call Newspapers documents Heins' psychological warfare against former Board member Dan Fowler. Mehlville School District residents can thank the Mehlville NEA (teachers' union) and other unions for Heins' election in the first place. Thankfully, Heins was thrown out of office by the voters in April of 2006 and replaced by a strip club owner. We urge you to visit Heins' blog to see his BIZARRE conspiracy theories on full display.

‘It sounds like Mr. Heins is a few bubbles off’

October 30, 2003

To the editor:

Help me get this story straight.

1. Mehlville had a weak nepotism prohibition. 2. Mehlville passed a strong anti-nepotism policy. 3. Mr. Fowler left the board and his wife was hired — for a relatively minor position — five months after the policy’s stipulated waiting period.

What is wrong? It sounds like Mr. Heins is a few bubbles off.

If someone or some group is complaining about a too strict of a nepotism policy, it would be prudent to follow the smoke to see who is after what.

This new board and administration are becoming worrisome and are deserving of close scrutiny. It may be time for the citizens of the Mehlville School District to tighten the reins.

Mehlville’s existing nepotism policy needs to be reviewed, Heins says

by Alyson E. Raletz

October 23, 2003

At least one Mehlville Board of Education member agrees with President Cindy Christopher’s assertion that the district’s hiring policies, including the existing nepotism policy, need to be reviewed.

During a Board of Education meeting in August, Christopher requested that the review of the district’s hiring policies be placed on a future board agenda.

“In particular, I’d like to potentially take a look at the nepotism policy,’’ she said at the Aug. 11 meeting, noting the existing nepotism policy is “extremely stringent ... I’m not sure it needs to be at the level that it’s at.’’

District administrators are examining the existing policies and expect to have a recommendation ready for the board before Christmas. Though no date has been scheduled for the board to discuss the hiring and nepotism policies, board member Mike Heins, elected to the board in April, has embarked on his own research of the issue.

“Like all hiring policies, they should be reviewed more frequently than they are,” Heins told the Call. “I think Cindy (Christopher) said it best, we need to make sure we’re not being too restrictive. Mehlville is a fairly large employer in south county. We need to make sure we are making available the best people for our positions ... When you look at the educational community, it’s not unusual for people to be related. In a small town it’s almost assumed .... I’m not saying that that’s the best or ideal situation.

“If you look at the past superintendent (John Cary), his spouse was a teacher. It happens very often ... When you’re talking about an employer as large as Mehlville, it’s not in our best interest to automatically not look at someone just because they are related to people.”

The district’s existing nepotism policy was adopted in 1993 based upon the recommendation of a citizens’ committee comprised of professionals from personnel departments at some of the area’s leading businesses.

The nepotism policy, which was adopted by the school board with a unanimous vote, stipulates that the Board of Education cannot contract with nor employ any board member, immediate relative of a board member or immediate relative of an administrative official of the district.

Under the policy, an immediate relative is: husband or wife; father or father-in-law; mother or mother-in-law; brother or brother-in-law; sister or sister-in-law; son or son-in-law; daughter or daughter-in-law; niece or nephew; grandchild; and “anyone listed above of a step or half relationship.’’

Superintendent Tim Ricker told the Call administrators are examining all hiring policies and reviewing employee recruitment, job fairs and transfer policies. He described the nepotism policy as a “minor issue.”

However, a former board member, Dan Fowler, disagrees that the nepotism policy is a minor issue.

Fowler, who served nine years on the Board of Education including two terms as president, writes an occasional column for the Call, “Your Call.’’

On Sept. 11, Fowler wrote a column contending the existing nepotism policy should remain unchanged. Fowler was a member of the board that approved the 1993 policy revision — a policy he stated was responsible for “ending decades of nepotism.’’

He wrote: “It was a difficult vote for the board in 1993. In fact, it was one of the most difficult votes I ever cast as a board member. But as the years passed, so did nepotism in the district, and all the negative overtones that went with it.’’

In a Sept. 18 e-mail to Fowler, Heins stated, “I know your (sic) busy, but I’d like to confirm some research as we are working on the district’s nepotism policy. Your term of service as a board member ended in April of ’98 and your spouse was hired a year and 5 months later August ’99. That exceeded the minimum requirement by 5 months right?”

Any board member or immediate relative will not be eligible for a position within the district for a period of one year after the member has completed his or her term of office, according to the district policy.

Sandy Fowler, Fowler’s wife, did not violate the policy. She actually was employed in the district before the nepotism policy was enacted, but terminated her own employment because of personal reasons long before the policy was enacted.

In response to a Call e-mail, Heins later sent an e-mail to the Call explaining: “‘We are working on a policy’ means studying. I study many things independent of the other members of the board. It is a future agenda item ...’’

His e-mail also stated: “Mr. Fowler’s article motivated me to seek this info, It gave a strong opinion that the policy that he ‘struggled with’ not be changed because the perception was that people were getting preferential treatment. I thought it was very odd, to say the least, that he didn’t mention his spouse’s hiring, I frankly thought an editor’s note should have been at the bottom showing a personal connection to the author’s material.

“Certainly there is a perception problem here. I have found nothing illegal or un-ethical, but I have food for thought. We should review the policy. We may wish to extend the minimum waiting period ... a board member must wait prior to hiring a spouse, maybe not,’’ the board member stated in his e-mail.

Heins told the Call people have brought to his attention employees who have related names in the school district with current and past school board members. He said he has been looking into if the district has been acting legally and ethically.

He said he didn’t mean to single out Fowler’s wife, but he wouldn’t comment, even if he could, on how many other people he was “researching.”

Fowler told the Call that he has has received other e-mails from Heins that he considers “bizarre,’’ and views the e-mails as harassment and an attempt to intimidate him from writing future columns for the Call.

In an Aug. 14 column, Fowler was critical of the manner in which the administration and the board have handled the Proposition P districtwide building improvement program.

In an Aug. 14 e-mail to Fowler, an insurance agent, Heins wrote: “Hey Dan, There’s a rumor going around that American Family is going to stop writing auto and home policies. Is this true?’’

Fowler told the Call he did not respond to that e-mail and three others from Heins, including the Sept. 18 e-mail, because of their “bizarre’’ nature.

“I think that the e-mails were uncalled for,” Fowler said. “It’s a very dirty form of politics. From our point of view, we viewed it as harassment and intimidation.”

Sandy Fowler, who works as a part-time counselor’s clerical assistant at Oakville Middle School, said the fact that a Board of Education member was looking into her hire date made her feel uncomfortable.

“I did feel intimidated,” she said. “I didn’t take it as an out-and-out threat, but it was very intimidating. It was a very uncomfortable feeling for someone to look into a job that is only 15 hours a week.”

Dan Fowler said there was no need for the e-mails.

“Mr. Heins knows my phone number,” he said. “If he knows the date of my wife’s employment, obviously someone gave him that information. He knows I am a former board member. What was the point other than to harass and intimidate?”

Fowler said if he receives any more e-mails from Heins, he intends to file an ethics complaint with the Missouri Ethics Commission on Heins and the Mehlville School District.

“It’s a real concern to me,” he said. “I think this is an effort to stop me from writing columns.”

When asked if she believed the e-mails and Heins’ independent research were appropriate, Christopher said board members tend to dig into issues pretty deeply and as individuals they have the right to go off on their own.

When she learned about the e-mails, she said she asked Heins how he had discovered Sandy Fowler’s hire date and she was satisfied with his answer: He had looked in past board books for the information.

Christopher said she realized Heins had some issues with Fowler’s column criticizing the district’s evaluation of the nepotism policy when Fowler himself had a spouse working in the district.

“I think he (Heins) was really concerned with the pot calling the kettle black on that,” Christopher said.

Ricker said he had followed up with human resources personnel to see if there had been any inquiries into employees’ personnel files and there were none.

“It was not an attack,” Heins told the Call. “It was certainly motivated by his letter (column). I was interested why he didn’t mention that. That would have been a perfect example about — perception.”

Now that's very interesting indeed! "true conservitive values" in my mind tell me that you stand for most of the things you state you stand for.

There is, however one thing that I do not understand, and that is your need to remain anonymous!

You say your not liberal, in fact your conservitive, however you refuse to identify yourselves, why is that?

I have put my name out there, my profile, and if you need more, come by the house and I will help you out. Your blog however chooses to remain anonymous, not only in it's comments', but in it's blog master!

A true patriot during the time of the American revolution came forward and risked everything he had to be a member of the Contentinal Congress, they signed their REAL NAME, and they were proud to do so! Can we, or should we do any less?

You say your membership is from all parties, well that's wonderfull, and I thank you for it, but that said,if you really want to make a difference, "ya gotta tell em who you are!"

Sure, you won't be invited to the holiday parties, and you may eaven loose a couple of so called friends, but in the end, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you have done the right thing for your family, your community, and America!

What say you?

Liberal, Conservative or whatever you are.

There are a lot of blogs to read on our computers, and we are privileged in this Country to express our views. Many of us don't stop to realize how lucky we are.

After being on this blog since it started, and reading tons of comments, I think now is the perfect time to at least admit that Tom Ford has given us an avenue to release our frustrations and has dodged many bullets in doing so.

You may have said many things on this blog as I have, that may or may not have been insulting to others, and this Country has given us the right to say those things.

But I really have to take my hat off to Tom Ford. He has suffered the most with people who dislike him and criticize him every which way. But Tom always signs his comments in spite of that whether or not you offend him or not. He has taken offense to several comments, but most of the time, Tom has been more of a gentleman than some bloggers are.

It matters not to me if he didn't win an election, it matters not to me whether he can spell, or make perfect sentences and it matters not to me what other people may think. He is still paying for a service for us to speak as we wish regarding our government.

If you read his comments, you will find that he is not afraid of ridicule, he is not ashamed to speak what he feels, and I thank him at this Thanksgiving Time for keeping this blog alive.

After all, it is better for us to scream, cry, carry on about foolishness here, than take it out on the family dog.

Thanks Tom Ford.

What, pray tell, is wrong with saying something nice about someone on a blog? Whether it is a relative, a friend, a fellow believer or a slobbering dog. Where is it written that blogs require perfect spelling and similarity in ideas? If the point is made, then all is well. Who darn cares except the people who object to anything nice or complimentary being said about anyone except their cronies and the ones who have Mr. Webster in hand looking for mistakes. Please, go pick up paper on the highway. That, or support some sort of idea which would help advance our city. Knitpicking does nothing whatsoever to enlighten. Please take your ex official status and get an attitude adjustment.
