SALE CONTRACT REACHED FOR CRESTWOOD PLAZA!!!!!!!!

Please click on the header to be directed to the St. Louis Post Dispatch story! It looks like a "mixed use project will pop up there, and that's really very good news!

Congratulations to our negotiating team, and Westfield for getting the best possible deal for all involved!

The next few weeks and months will be a very exciting time here in Crestwood, and i for one can't wait to see what we will be getting in the way of stores, etc.

From what I have read lately (in the "paper") there are no more TIF's, TDD's or CID's as of January 1, 2008 in Missouri, so this will be a great project for us all. For more on the bond sales deal read the article in the "paper."

"Plans call for a complete $200 million mixed-use redevelopment at the 50-acre site where the center was developed by Hycel Properties in 1957."
I guess Tom is saying that the new owners will not need any TIF, CDD or TDD as they have $200 million for the purchase and redevelopment. Great news, means Mayor was correct in Sept'07 when he said we don't need another tax increase.
We don't need a tax increase, hurray!!!!!

Tom:

No more TIF's is correct. CID and TDD are still around and the developer will be asking for both.

More importanly, while the mall is being rebuilt, how is the City going to function? Sales tax revenue will drop to almost nothing at the site while it is under construction.

6:13 PM blogger: OK, I see your point on the taxes, but I hope by then we will have a way to pick up the slack!

At any rate, I will be asking that question of the BOA, etc. I don't know about the use of a TDD, as we have seen that trick before, and I hope the BOA took notice!

At any rate, we new this would have to happen sooner or later, and I for one am happy it's sooner!

Other cities in the area, Des Peres and recently St. Ann, have negoiated agreements with the developers of their malls to provide revenue during their rebuilds with the mone being repaid as part of the TIF.

Unfortunatley, it doesn't look like this option is open to Crestwood.

HOPE IS NOT A PLAN--WHAT IS THE PLAN?

There is no plan, never was one, never will be one.

When you say congratultions to our negotiating team, are you saying that anyone from the City of Crestwood was involved in getting this deal done?

8:53PM blogger: I believe that the mayor and the C/A were involved in the negotiations, so, congratulations to the "team!"

8:37 PM blogger: Why would I be privy to the "plan?" Call your Alderman, that's why they get the big bucks!

Tom: Certainly you can't be as obtuse as you would appear.
The CA and mayor had nothing to do with the deal. It's a business transaction, so your congratulations to the "team'' are unfounded.

I can't honestly see the City offering much help in closing the deal other than promising tax incentives and initiating the RDP.

I chuckled at the comments from Grewe's company that Applebees was staying where they are now that the shopping center is full again.

Gee, who was the one that kept the shopping center vacant for all those years?

Just a thought or two here from a friend.

A Dog's Purpose (from a 6-year-old)

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish
Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little
boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we
couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure
for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for
six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might
learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family
surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time,
that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker
slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or
confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud
about the sad fact that animal lives are Shorter than human lives. Shane, who
had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why."

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd
never heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life - -
like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?" The Six-year-old
continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

Live simply.

Love generously.

Care deeply.

Speak kindly.

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

Take naps.

Stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Be loyal.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent , sit close by, and nuzzle them
gently.

ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!

Latest word on the street (at macy's) is the development will include Macy's which will remain open during construction?

For whatever it's worth the new development is said to be "like nothing seen before in this area."

So, off to the races my friends!

Well, now the Plaza is not sold! What the heck is going on here? First the local papers say it is, and now Frank Myers Say's it isn't!

Stay tuned folks, this has more twists and turns that the infamous "pool deal," and we know where that went!

On Donnybrook, Chanel 9, Thursday Night one of the topics was Macy's and the laying off of 850 employees in their offices in St. Louis. One of the participants, Alvin Ried, mentioned in part of the conversation that Macy's Crestwood was likely to close soon and a 'development" was going in. Does Mr. Ried know more than we do? Or, maybe he just hear this.

I think we all should be tired by now of getting one authentic, real statement regarding Crestwood Plaza and its future.

There have been so many comments about what it will become, I am jut ready to wait and see instead if this constant speculaton.

The Country is just about ready to get a new President, people are trying to dig themselves out of foreclosures in their own households. We are in a war. How in the world do we think that getting the plaza sold is going to be done in the blink of an eye.

Investors are hesitant as well to welcome any big investment without much intrepedation. Let's just forget what we may or may not know and concentrate on all the other things we need to do in Crestwood.

It's not the the 50's or 60's anymore. We won't fall apart without Crestwood Plaza, we just have never been Crestwood without it.

Something will become of it. Let's leave the particulars up to the new board of aldermen and mayor. Call them and speak to them instead of inundating us with "I heard that", or "someone told it that".

I am frankly sick of worrying about it like we are nothing without Crestwood Plaza.
