Northwest Plaza for sale....AGAIN!

With thanks to Jimmy M. I bring you the story from the St. Louis Business Journal. Boy, that was a very short lived deal wasn't it. The "paper" is saying that Mayor Robinson has confirmed the sale of Crestwood Plaza (should be done by now,)so we should have some idea of what's going in there soon.

Things are moving ahead for us, and although I know all of us will never agree on what should go in there, something will, and I pray that it will benefit Crestwood, and you and I.

Interesting about Northwest Plaza. Nothing is for certain in today's real estate market.

And Tom, I just read the Call article. I didn't see that the mayor confirmed anything. He just said it could happen soon, maybe this week, but they don't know when for sure. I was especially interested in what the mayor had to say about needing TIF for the project and how the TIF battle in the state might delay any TIFs until August. If that's the case, we may not be seeing any new development at that mall until the middle of 2009. We have to go through 2008 without reaping the benefits. I suppose it's just "hold on" until next year.

I would think the legislature and the state will be under pressure to fix the TIF laws ASAP. Not that I'm a big fan of TIF, but I'm hoping the fix will be sooner than 2009 ...

On the other hand, it will be interesting to see the new plans for the mall.

Regardless of how the state handles the TIF question, the real issue is how are our elected officials going to react to a request from a developer for help? Most of them, including Roy, have when running for office said they would not support a TIF, the same position Tom and others have expressed here on these cyber pages.
What is the general consensus of the readers of this blog about someone who said one thing when they ran for office and then changed their position once elected? Is it good or bad?

First things first. I think we should all just be patient and see when and if the new mall owners make their announcement that the mall has been purchased. I hate rumors as well as the speculative comments constantly being made by our mayor. Did he buy the property? I don't think so but he sure makes comments on a regular basis regarding it's redevelopment. I don't think speculation is good for the city. Wait until it is made official and then we will know for sure.
As for the TIF question. Unless a potential new owner has $220,000,000 just laying around they are going to ask for redevelopment assistance. And this city better get ready to provide whatever they can to assist otherwise what you will see at that location is exactly what you have there now with maybe a little gingerbread added and that will not help Crestwood one bit. So stop speculating and wait for the new owners to ask. Then we can decide.

I also read the Call. I found the mayors statement that he told the developer/new owner that they must re-develop their new property in a manner that is best for Crestwood.
What happens if they chose not to do so? What will the City do to stop them?

1:22PM blogger: That is a very interesting question! It will be their property, all we can do is try to block undesirable development at the P&Z, and BOA level.

I seriously doubt that we will ever have to worry about that though, as I think the mayor has given them some idea as to what Crestwood is looking for.

A Gander Mountain store has yet to show up in Missouri, and that would be excellent to say the least!

As the poster above you said, we shall see in due course, however I think it's fun to speculate about it though.

I think it's amazing that the mayor would think he could make demands on any developer, much less talk about them to a reporter of a paper. I have a pretty good idea who bought the mayors' coffee cup for him that the article noted.

I made no accusations, I asked questions, why can't you allow questions being asked but allow as recently as in the posts 455 down to 445 rumors being posted along with accusations without names being signed?

You have never required anyone to sign their name when they were accusing a former mayor, alderman or city administrator in the past, so why now? Are you going to go back and delete all the posts in the past that you allowed to remain where there was no name signed?
To be fair and the upright person you claim to be, I think you should.
What is so wrong with a question asking why a former State Rep. who lives in Crestwood, was kicked out of his political party?
I thought this blog was for all the news with none of the paper? I thought it was a place for people to vent?
I bet you erase this post too, if that is the case, you better go back through all your posts because I might just ask my question some where way back.
Have fun looking for it.

If you read the rest of story on Northwest Plaza, it also says a Wal-Mart Super Center signed as an anchor. Does anybody know how much sales tax a Wal-Mart Super Center brings in? I bet it is a ton!

Doubt that!

And as you can tell by the lack of "chatter" Crestwood is just fine. No need to increase taxes, no need for additional income for payroll. Everything is ok. Relax.

Just read the Call, and I guess I missed something. I missed the place where the mayor now supports getting our City into lawsuits. I missed where our mayor changed his position on TIF from the one he had when he first ran for the office 3 years ago and the one he has now.
Our mayor just broke a tie vote in closed session that results in our City joining in a lawsuit that challenges the changes to the TIF laws.
What has happened to our mayor?

The owners of the mall have not been spurred to make changes in the past 3-4 years. What difference does another couple of years make? Even if the TIF stuff was still in place as in the past, development and additional tax monies would not be seen by the city for another 2-3 years (if that) anyway. I guess the mayor thinks that if sold this month, additional revenues will be streaming in this year. NOT. Not even next year....Check out the new development at the corner of Old Sappington and Watson. That was in the making for years before they broke ground. These things take a long time to get rolling. Expecting increased revenue soon from the mall development is pure fantasy.

" Find out where I'm coming from and try to convince me to go along with it." - quote from the mayor

I guess he really does run the city, not the Board of Alderman. We just need to get rid of the Charter.....

All of you had better watch what you said about the mayor, even if it's just quoting what he said. If Tom doesn't like what quote of the mayor's you use, or question you ask about a quote, he will delete your post.

I objected to the constant comments (there is only one entity that does this on a regular basis) about a private citizen, not an elected, one!

If you an elected official, or in the City hierarchy you bought your ticket, and your fair game here.

That said unless you post your real name (look at the letter you received today) I will delete any smarmy remarks! Heck, I would do it if it was you they were taking pot shots at!

Hummmmm, your IP address? well think about it, a server can do wonders these days!

10:31 2/18 Why do you ask a question when you already seem to know the answer regarding anyone, much less a state representative; IF NOT to do damage to that person? Tell us the answer pray tell!!!

Since you already know the answer, why not enlighten us unless to just like to stir things up AND FURTHER how is your statement connected to any of the comments pertinent to this blog?

The real answer is that all you really want to do is damage someone that you obviously hate, a State Representative. Who cares?

FURTHER nobody really gives a tinker's darn about it. You mention things but don't give us the whole story which is suppose to make us feel you that you are just Oh so smart! What do you want us to do about it? Who really cares anyway?

All it tells me is that you are still at this late date and time trying to show everyone that you still have never accepted your own mistakes since everybody knows from whence you came.

If you are so hip on truthfulness, why don't you start with your own faults and mishaps. No I guess you can't do that cause it would take up most of this blog to state all of them.

1:54 PM Come on and stop bluffing. We are not stupid.

If you really wanted to know your answer regarding a state representative, you wouldn't expect to get your answer on this blog. Your hatred is "see through" and so obvious. But typical of you and yours.

Surely, you don't think we buy your tripe? There are better ways to find that out your answer, and you know it. You just want to cause trouble because that's how sick folk like you get their kicks. Plus if you are poking fun at somebody else, it takes the focus off of you, the real problem.

Too bad you continue to ramble about the issues of others and not the issues you have been guilty of.

You cannot be telling us that you are so stupid that you can't make a few phone calls to others in his party and find out if these allegations are the truth or rumor.

Since you asked the question, I assume you don't really know the answer or maybe you do but just want to play silly games.

And then again, maybe you are just like the National Inquirer that doesn't lie but never tells the truth. All I can tell you is that you are having more fun than the rest of us. You just come off to us as being a real nit wit.

You can tongue and cheek all you want, but you have to be real stupid not to know that you probably are not going to get that information here. Only we are smart enough to know your motives and your lack of objectivity.

Hi KTRU,
Feel better now?

I don't know JPM why don't you ask KTRU yourself instead of asking here? The questions raised in post 10:31 2/18 have yet to be answered and they do deal with a person who was elected to office and still remains in the public eye.

12:29 PM, February 28, 2008

JPM did not send that clip. But I'm pretty sure I know who JPM is and you know, doubt KTRU's comments are ruffling any feathers in that camp. Kinda old and tired. If KTRU is not guilty, either, then think it wise on their part to abstain from defamatory public comments that are similar, and reflect back on them. Most have come to expect this kind of political verbal and now blogged retaliation from "pasters." Time we moved on.

Hi 5:49 2/28
Speaking of sides ... my side and your side. And then speaking of never bringing up anything historical or political on this blog. Here I thought it was your side that wants to move on and drop the historical and political references. Can't have it both ways. So, if you want to put historical and political back in the equasion, so be it. Shall we talk some more about the Mayor who resigned, the mismanagement of funds, the CA with a thing for power and ladies, the lazy Mayor, the hugely unaffordable city hall changover; or perhaps the Mayor who resigned; the fancy car and expensive office furniture. Make up your mind. Now as for bringing up something embarrassing. Really don't think I have seen anything embarrassing about your reference to embarrassing. All that was just basically 'sounding off' and if it made someone feel better. Great! Now for that "bridge." Think we are "bridging" the gap a whole lot better today than when we were being led by those whose idea of governance was insulting their fellow aldermen and being obtuse and letting an employee take over the reigns. As for moving on. Let us know when you are up for it. We have bigger fish to fry for now. Surely you have a positive contribution you could make to our community effort. We are looking for stout hearted folk.
