Rumors abound that the Mall is sold, but is it? (update! IT"S SOLD!)

Several bloggers have written to tell me that the Mall has been sold, but I wonder, has it indeed been finalized?

It seems there is some reference to the sale in the "paper" but they have been wrong in the past so I remain on the side of the skeptics. I called an Alderman to ask for his in-put and was told he had a call saying it would close on Thursday, and it was sold. That said however, he also told me that he has no concrete proof that it sold, or it will close, so..........

Watch this site for further developments as the do, or do not occur.

UPDATE ON THE MALL SALE!: I just received a phone call to tell me that the packets were delivered to the Aldermen late this morning, and they contain information from legal representatives from two companies, (one in New York, and one in Chicago)that have combined to purchase the Mall. I drove past there, and all but one Westfield signs have been removed, so I now believe it's a "done deal!"

I have no information at this time as to what will be going in there, but the stores have been told it will remain open at this time, and possibly through the renovation period, so this is good news.

Tom,

Thanks for double-checking this. I saw the article, but I was also looking for an announcement somewhere else too.

Well we can always fix that by bringing up the fact that the pool will be opening soon (May,) and that's always good for a "remark" or two.

Tom, Please don't even start with that. I must admit that the pool has made for some interesting comments in the past, but I would rather concentrate on something positive for a change.

I am as guilty as others for using the blog as a sounding board for things gone wrong. But it would be so nice to see new positive things. Anyhow, that's what I am going to try to do.

How much you want to bet that if everybody did that, nobody would respond to the blog anymore.

Hey Tom, did you notice that your blog comments regarding positive things have almost no comments? Like Happy Easter and St. Patrick's Day.

Sounds like everybody gravitates on the negative. Does that sound right to you? I think it's kind of sad.

Yes it is sad, but it's also human nature to respond to a negative, just look at the gawkers at a car wreck.

Some day the fine people of Crestwood will in fact be responding to the positive, but it will take time.

As they say, time heals all wounds, and when the memories of past administrations have faded then I expect tings to go positive!

By the way, it should only take 5 seconds for someone to post a negative on the current administration once they read this, watch and see!

As far as I know, the Call is the only media that's reported on it.

12:51 AM Oh Yeah they should get a medal for it. Watch how The Call continues to report on the progress at The Mall. Bet they will make sure they get in a "negative" about the mayor's involvement. Always has and always will.

Crestwood Plaza is now Crestwood Court
STAFF REPORTS
04/02/2008

Crestwood Plaza has rebranded itself as Crestwood Court after new owners closed on the sale last week. Now the new owners, Chicago's Centrum Properties and New York's Angelo, Gordon & Co., are looking at options for the aging mall.

The deal between the companies and Australian shopping-mall giant Westfield Group, first reported in the Post-Dispatch by columnist Joe Whittington two months ago, closed on March 26.

Westfield declined to disclose the sales price. It bought the mall, built in 1957, for $106.4 million in 1998.
