Missouri legislature introduces "red light camera" ban!

Please click on the header to be directed to the story. I am glad to see that this bill requires all police departments to positively identify the DRIVER of the suspected vehicle, and not just the vehicle.

This is the correct way to do it f we are going to follow the Constitution, and give the "suspect" his/her rights under the fourth amendment (the right to confront your accuser.)

I say well done to the State legislature, and to those who have fought the good fight to end this abuse!

I guess if this is passed (it's attached to the transportation bill,) we will have to find another way to "enhance" our revenue!)

Tom.

Again you show your ignorance of the law (reserve is not a real cop). It is the SIXTH AMENDMENT.

"St. Louis Police Officers Association wants to Eliminate Red Light Cameras

Bill Reker Reporting
bereker@cbs.com

ST. LOUIS (KMOX News) -- The St. Louis Police Officers Association has come out against the use of red light enforcement cameras. President of the Association, Gary Wiegert, says the camers do not represent good law enforcement practices and are just a way to make money.

He criticized some aldermen for allegedly not paying fines after getting citations. He refers to City Alderman Stephen Gregali who allegedly got a red light camera citation fixed by police. In another case alderman Gregory Carter allegedly had his ticket dismissed by calling a number on the back of the citation.

The Board, of the Police Officers Association, voted 14-to-3 to support legislation by State Senator Jim Lembke, calling for elimination of the cameras."

7:54 AM blogger: ignorance of the law? Nope, forgetfulness perhaps, but ignorance? NO!

By the way I did something for the community for 18 years (and I have the scars and citations to prove it,) what the heck have you done besides hide behind your "anonymous skirts" and complain?

Never mind the answer as we all know it, NOTHING!!!

WOW!!! Take a look at what the main "red light camera" company sold so far!

"The largest red-light camera company, Redflex Traffic Systems of Scottsdale, operates red-light or speed cameras in 22 states, and added 79 cities last year. It signed a $32 million maintenance contract with Chicago last fall, and in just the last three weeks of last year, Redflex added five new cities.

Redflex saw net, after-tax profits of $10.6 million in fiscal year 2008, up from $7.3 million the year before."
