The question here is, what if he's right?

The article is deemed to be a hoax so I have removed it from this Blog. Thank you to the reader who UN-covered it for us.

Origins:   The Internet piece quoted above originally began circulating just after the U.S. presidential election of November 2008, and by March 2009 it had picked up an attribution crediting it to David Kaiser, a historian who has authored a number of books, including The Road to Dallas: The Assassination of John F. Kennedy. However, as Mr. Kaiser told us and notes in his blog, History Unfolding, he did not pen this piece:
The first two sentences, beginning, "For the past thirty years," were of course written by me; the rest of the email was not written by me. Its views are in many ways the opposite of my own.
This item has also been mistakenly attributed to Dr. Timothy L. Wood, an Assistant Professor of History at Southwest Baptist University. Like David Kaiser, Dr. Wood told us that he did not write the piece and pointed us to a blog entry disclaiming his authorship.

The original is also commonly attributed to Pamela Geller, having appeared in her Atlas Shrugs blog on 13 November 2008. However, Ms. Geller notes in her introductory statement that "I wish I had written it" and indicates it originated as a reader comment posted to yet another blog.

As far as we know, this piece began as a comment posted to Pat Dollard's blog in November 2008 by an author identified only as "TPS."

That's what gets me about the things we read or hear. So how can anyone be sure or reasonably sure that we have the truth? We always have to hesitate, and cannot give credence to things. Simply because there are those who do this in the media all the time. Newspaper reporters, journalists, etc. They all make their living on words and just as easily can be selling us the wrong thing.

Just because the written words seem to coincide with our thoughts and feelings about our Country, or about anything for that matter - you can't really "take it to the bank" and it doesn't mean that those who are making statements are not taking things out of context or using phrases from other things and putting their slant on important issues.

When I started reading this before it was taken off the blog, I had to stop reading it because it was absolutely making me sick.

But the problem is, how do we really know if he is right or not. It can keep you up all night if you let it.

There is no right or wrong to be learned from an opinion piece. It's just that...someone's opinion. The Internet has provided a bully pulpit for anyone who can use a keyboard. While I personally didn't agree with the writer of that piece, what I found most disheartening were not the words, but the approach that framed the words.

The author attempted to give credence to his/her own views by associating them to another person who has some degree of standing. Thus, the author's personal views were ascribed to someone else, who clearly did not agree with the point of view.

If we all would become a little more inquisitive and do our own research, instead of blindly following only those we think we agree with, the world would be a place richer in thought. I was the one who called out that article, and it merely took plugging it into Google to find the origin.

I respect Tom for having and sharing his personal views on here. I don't agree with much of it, but that's my opinion ~ as equally-informed as his. As the old saying kinda goes "opinions are like butts- everybody has one.". The point is this...use your own brain to discern fact from fiction.

In our little community it's especially important to be self-informed rather than taking opinion as fact. As to the redacted post, there is no right or wrong. Just opinion colored as some kind of "truth" and ascribed to someone else.

7:53 PM Blogger: Well one way is to see if it is deleted As this one was.) If I know it's wrong up front I will not post it, and if I find out after the fact, I will delete it!

In the middle ground I will say that this is not verified, but....

Simple? You bet it is.
