The second annual classic car cruse is tomorrow.

I received this from the veterans committee this morning so I would like to pass it on to you,

"Members of the Crestwood Veterans Memorial Committee will be present at the 2nd Annual Classic Car Cruise at Crestwood Court on August 13, 2011.

The memorial committee will be sharing a booth with the Vietnam Veterans. Please stop by and learn about the memorial, plans to enhance or expand the memorial and learn about several members of our community who lost their lives while in the service of our country.

The committee will be accepting tax deductible donations to fund this project and looking for citizens and veterans to join our team to help reach our goal of drawing attention to this memorial erected in 1968 and to enhance and allow for growth should any of our sons or daughters pay the ultimate price for our freedom.

Please stop by while enjoying the other events and activities of this wonderful community event."

As usual the stage at night was very entertaining. I was disappointed with the reduced participants showing their cars. Perhaps the organizers might consider moving it to Sunday.

Of course I will conitnue to stop in at Sonic in Kirkwood on weekly basis because the proud owners of the vintage cars gather regularly.

10:12 AM Blogger: I didn't know about the Sonic, Kirkwood store having regular car gatherings, thanks for tell us!

I do believe that a "drive in" with the sort of motif would be a going business and a REAL DRAW FOR CRESTWOOD!

Now if we only had an "economic development commission" that met REGULARLY, and had the expertise to draw new business it could be a reality. (Of curse it would have to clear the neighbors wherever it goes as Crestwood is famous for not wanting noise or, gasp, traffic.)

Thanks again for the information.

With the exception of a few hours in the middle of the day, I was there at the Veterans Committee/VVA tent.(Went home to rehydrate a bit.) We were next to the National Guard display vehicle, which drew more people. We have a new display board, and album, (Thanks to Mike, and Connie!), and that seemed to draw people to us. We talked to lots of people, and got lots of donations in cash, and checks (we are now a tax deductible charity) but I have no idea how much. The "money man" will have a report at the next meeting. When the "car cruise" started, most of the people left, so we packed it in. (We looked like lobsters by then. Hot, hot, hot.
Sorry I missed seeing you Tom.

Don't forget the Veterans Day Ceremony tentatively scheduled for Wednesday November 9 at City Hall!

We may also be seen at the entrance at Shop And Save at various times, so keep an eye out for us!

Have a good day!

Great turnout for the event. My only disappointment was our men and women in blue. As a health care professional, it pains me to see young professionals that are obese. Yes, I said obese. Every officer working the event was grossly overweight. OUR tax dollars pay for each officer’s level of fitness, directly and indirectly. Want proof; see how many sick days have been taken; how many bad backs are current issues; diabetes. I think you get the picture. It’s like the old oil commercial “pay me now or pay me more later”.

I am glad you brought up this annual event, Tom.

I didn't attend, but I sure loved seeing the old Crestwood Plaza parking lot filled with activity. The cars were really pretty and I saw people walking across Watson and Sappington dragging their chairs with them. Haven't seen that for awhile. And bless those good American veterans. That was a real positive.

What a great sight to see, just like years ago - so much going on at Crestwood Plaza. I think everyone did a wonderful job bringing all of it together.

As far as noise and traffic off of Highway 66 in Crestwood, that is just a fact of life when you live close to the highway. People living there should know that sometimes you have to take the bitter with the sweet. No doubt about it; you are not in a peacful bedroom community. We are a point of sale city but I love living hear.

It's Highway 66 and that's a "given". I would love to see more business come our way. But it will, it just takes time.

Anyone who doesn't like to have the convenience of shopping close to home, saving on gas, can go to West County, South County, the Galleria, etc. and deal with that mayhem miles away, with the parking chaos, cars and people. Then when you are tired and your money is spent for other cities to collect, you still need to walk back to your cars, remember where you parked and drive the distance all the way home. And remember, you also need to go all the way back to make returns on things that don't work or don't fit.

I have always loved living in Crestwood because I could walk to the plaza on nice day and shop til I dropped and go back home five minutes by car, 12 minutes on foot.

I will never give up on this City. We had growing pains when we were young but getting old is mandatory. Just like the Plaza, we have had aches and pains and adjusted ourelves to making changes in our lives.

Sometimes, we have had to do things that make us mad and angry, take pills, be tested for one thing or another. But we don't give up on ourselves, we make the best of it and hope for a better day. Crestwood will come back, but when the whole world is in a crunch, is when we have to hold on to faith and hope. I can do that!

"Great turnout for the event."

This is about the only thing in this post I agree with!

I was there almost the entire day, and spoke to many of our "City Employees" (Police and Fire), and I think many of your comments are disgusting.

"Every officer working the event was grossly overweight."

That is ridiculous. They are all different sizes. And you do know, of course, that they have equipment on under their outer clothing?

"OUR tax dollars pay for each officer’s level of fitness, directly and indirectly."

It is nice that you are more worried about your money than the health of OUR employees.

"As a health care professional"

Now here is a case of "holier than thou" thinking.

There is no industry that sucks up more federal, state, and local tax money, as well as personal money for co-pays on everything, and medical insurance premiums, and medicine. I spend way more on medical related expenses than on local taxes.

I have had to call on our Police and Fire people on several occaisions in the past, and I am certainly glad that they are there...trained, experienced, fit, and ready.

HOORAY FOR OUR CRESTWOOD CITY EMPLOYEES!!

I got there about 1-1:30 and the place was hopping...well, not literally, but it was nice to see all that activity again. The booths were great and the cars were fun to look at...and envy as well. I saw a few Crestwood police and fire and all were friendly as well as a few of the aldermen. All in all, a very good time. We may argue over policy and have an occasional disagreement in the aldermanic chambers, but it's always nice to come together as a community for these events.

9:13 8/15 I, as John, feel that your take on this annual event is a real slap in the face. It's easy to be cruel when you are perfect - I guess - but I doubt it in this case.

Some day, I hope that you are not in a position to have one of these "overweight" Persons in Blue (fire or police service personnel) be the same ones who save your "sorry" life!!!

I will tell you for a fact that we have had the best fire service and police service of any city in the County. It's a real shame that you would be so critical when they put themselves in harm's way and are sometimes involved in volitile circumstances. It only takes one time for things to go bad and a police officer or firefighter can die on duty. And I am sure many of those who have perished in a fire or died from a bullet thought it could never happen to them.

Further, because of the state of the economy in Crestwood and everywhere, we are not even in a position to pay them what they truly deserve and I can include all city employees in that scenario as well. I, also, am proud as heck we have them.

I am proud of the services they provide and am grateful every day that we have our own. Saving lives is not for the weak you know; and I can tell you they do their jobs and do them well. Further, I don't want some 98 lb. weakling carrying me on a stretcher. Plus, they are all physically fit and all tested yearly by "health care" doctors.

Over the years working for the City of Crestwood, I can verify how many thank you letters came to city hall from persons who were so happy to be alive after the fire service and/or police professionals saved their lives or the lives of their loved ones.

I read and saw the letters as they passed from the departments to the City Administration. These letters were from people who survived thanks to our fire/police services from residents, and non-residents. People who became ill at Crestwood Plaza, people robbed, Crestwood businesses who were burglarized, etc.

Too bad you are one of those who has to go through a life or death event before you see how important these persons are --- be it how many pounds you would deem them perfect!

Karl Kestler, Fire Chief and Mark Menning, Assistant Fire Chief as well as Police Chief Mike Paillou and his crew of supervisors and assistants are the best of the best. I know their work ethics and I can tell you, if you hand-picked anyne in the whole of the County to get better personnel than all of the above, you could not do it. They all work together.

Lastly, I am more than happy that I can sign my name to this comment and darn proud to do it. Those who wish to make a satire out of my words - have at it but I know what I know!

11:06 AM Blogger: You will notice that Sandy and John have the decency to comment minus the nasty words!

Your comments are welcome as always, but clean it up and try again as we don't talk like that here.

By the way if you remember the math class where they taught shapes such as trapezoids, ET AL, you will remember that shapes are all different. I myself am "round," and round is defiantly a shape, so who is to say who is in shape and who isn't?
