Received from a reader who is a long time Crestwood resident, what do you think?

Well Tom,

"I hope the BOA takes this into consideration as the good ship Crestwood steers forward out of debt and into a position to begin a savings plan. Reduce the director of public works compensation, eliminate the purchase of the police cars, combine the secretaries into a pool and reduce head count, reduce the target dollar amount for the replacement firetruck and extend the time target for replacement, eliminate the Sappington house caretaker, eliminate animal control. These are just few of the strategies we should employ to position Crestwood in a stronger financial position."

Thanks for listening to me.

The writer has some very valid points. If we are to survive the storm that has descended upon us thanks to foolish and ridiculous expenditures by our so called representatives in Congress and President, we must cut expenses, and we must do it right now.

At the last BOA meeting we saw a chance to pick up a new business "tabled" for further discussion. We can't seem to draw a new business to Crestwood, and the only way a business comes to a new location here is to move from A to B.

Crestwood Courts is "DRT" (dead right there,) and if it were to be revitalized today it would be 5 years before anyone sees any measurable increase to the City coffers. So all that said, what do we do? Your turn please.

I think there are some good ideas from this Crestwood resident; and I hope the powers that be take a look at them and see if they have merit.

The new city administrator, along with the mayor should start coming up with some good ideas plus a knowledgeable Finance Person.

Further I am not sure if it has been done, but perhaps a meeting should be set up with Department Heads so they can give their input.

Most of this resident's ideas sound good on paper, but it also has to pass the "litmus" test.

We have great department heads, now a city administrator as well, a good mayor and finance people. If they put their heads together, we will have a winning team. We've made it this far - I have my money on them.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Call me impatient, but I want to know what the owners are planing to do with this Mall and when. While Crestwood sits ideal, other communities such are have no problems with "the economy" - the most overused accuse by any political/media figure.

2:59 PM Blogger: I am not in the loop when it comes to what the owners are up to, but I believe were seeing it, IE, nothing.

Crestwood Courts are "land locked" (not near an interstate,) funding is very tight, businesses are in a zero growth pattern until things improve, and there are NO retail shops opening or expanding!

The unfortunate results are that the owners know this full well and are in the same mode as above.

The frank truth is that if they started to renovate today, there would be nothing on our radar for at least three years or more.

Other communities seem to be attracting new businesses, but are they really, or are they just giving away the farm with TIF's, TDD's, and CID'S that will cause their local school district to loose tax monies?

The past is the past. We must develop a new vision for Crestwood.. We are not the shopping destination now or in the forseeable future.

What do we want to be? What do we want offer to the rest of the world? Are we satisfied with being the least expensive entry to the Lindbergh school district? Do we influence our future or let luck define the future? So far the economic development commission has demonstrated no signs of developing anything. The assistant city administrator has not demonstrated any skills regarding development.

7:41 AM Blogger: Indeed there is an "economic development commission" in name only it would seem.

When do we see a report on what if anything they have accomplished? When do we see the FULL commission meeting? When will the light bulb go on at City Hall that this is NOT working, and changes be made?

Sorry but I have seen nothing from the commission or the assistant C/A with respect to any "economic development" in Crestwood.

May I humbly suggest that SOMETHING be done to develop a new commission before there is nothing left to develop?

I am suggesting the opportunity for taking an offensive position has passed.

Why you ask?

We have spent half of the $6 million cash reserves to " balance the budget".

In other words our leadership have spent the citizens into a corner again. An attempt to raise taxes will happen soon.
I would not be surprised to hear the request/suggestion during the budget debate.

Until we learn to save dollars so that we can gain access when emergencies arise increases in taxes will continue.

Reductions in costs suggested as saving money is incorrect.

Reducing cost cannot be labeled as saving money. Saving anything requires access to it at a later time. Listen closely when they say money has been saved when it is only a cost reduction.

Numerous opportunities where available this year to save money but the boa decided to spend it on unnecessary equipment.
