Candidates for Ward Two and Ward Four Alderman to debate on Monday, March 19,2012 in the BOA chambers starting at 7:00 PM. Please join us.

Please join your friends and neighbors at the Crestwood candidates debate set for Monday night, March 19, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the Board chambers at City Hall. The following format will be followed. A coin toss will determine which of the wards will go first.

Ward Two: Tim Trueblood, Mary Stadter

Ward Four: Steve Nieder, Dan Tennessen

(All Alderman and the Mayor will be invited, but only candidates will be debating.)

The format will be as follows, each Ward will have one hour for questions from the audience which must be hand written in advance with the questioners Name and Ward on it (can be first name only.) The forms for the questions will be available at the door starting at 6:30 PM.

Your questions will then be asked by one of the three moderators (Jackie Stock, Roger Anderson, or Tom Ford.) Each Candidate will have three minutes to answer the question and their opponent will have three minutes for rebuttal if needed.

Each Ward will be given a total of one hour for their portion of the debate, and we will stick to that time frame so as to give everyone a chance to ask and answer.

We ALL ask that the candidates not attempt to "stack" the audience in their favor as we expect fair play from all involved.

Please remember that there is no food or drink allowed in the chambers and your keeping the room as we found it will be greatly appreciated.

We hope to see ALL of you there for this most important debate, and remember, as the man once said, "You get the Government you deserve.

Well we had two people drop out of tonight's debate (last night when it was to late to cancel,) because they didn't feel the moderators could be unbiased.

Interesting, no? I think if your going to run for a public office you should put yourself up to the public in a forum, period.

I have no idea how either of the no shows feel they can handle the stress of actually being an Alderman if they can't answer questions from an audience of their peers.

It should be noted that the "moderators" consisted of Ms. Jackie Stock, Mr. Roger Anderson, and me. Now you can say what you will about me but as for Ms.Stock and Mr. Anderson, they are above reproach (that's why I choose them.)

I believe a lot of minds were made up tonight, and we shall just how many in April.

My thanks to the attending candidates (Messrs. Nieder and Trueblood for their valuable time, The "patch" for being there to report on the meeting, and to the registered voters who took the time to come and ask the questions they had prepared for ALL the candidates.

Isn't it true that 2 of the three "moderators" have signs in their yard supporting one candidate over another?

Signs in the yards.

Tennessen certainly could claim this an issue. Why was he terrified.
If he cannot handle this event why would I support him or her?
You miss an important point.

How can these candidates be expected to handle controversial issues in a public forum if a simple debate is terrifying.

8:57 PM Blogger: It is indeed true friend, (Ms. Stock, and I) however the questions were ALL coming from the floor, not the moderators, your people knew that and the agreed to it! They bailed because of,???

This is still America, like it or not,,and a such we all have the right to select our candidate. That however does not mean we would not have given your people full courtesy, and a FAIR AND HONEST DEBATE! Pray tell does MSNBC have a bias? You bet they do, but do they show it during a debate? No, they do not.

You know it, but your just trying to cove for their error in judgement in not attending!

Speaking of that, if they can't stand the heat from a small crowd, how will they ever stand the stress of the real job of Alderman?

well, given that, on here, Mr. Ford is so obviously in favor of Mr. Neider adn Mr. Trueblood, I am not sure I blame them for dropping out. I would have a hard time believing there could be anything unbiased there.

So, are the "missing" candidates going to organize a "meet the candidates" event?

Weren't they at the previous event organized by the same people?

I was at both events, and didn't see any bias by anyone...were you at either?

Does anyone recall the debate for Mayor held in 2005? Who was at the door handing out fliers urging people NOT to ATTEND the debate?
It was John Foot.

Who has been named as a person giving them "good advice" by one of the candidates missing from last nights debate?
It was Alderman John Foot.

It is apparent that some of our residents enjoy the partisan arguments that a "debate" would provide. Loaded words like "terrified" or comparing local residents to MSNBC with chants of "This is America"! are not what we need in Crestwood. Get to know your candidates for yourselves, people. They'll probably be knocking on your door real soon. Drama is not what is needed at city hall.

I bet the City administrator didn't attend...she won't even answer her phone..

Well if Mary Stadter knocks on mine, I'm going to ask her which of the three moderators has, as she claimed in the Patch, a sign in their yard for Tennessen's opponent?

Fact is there are no such signs! Will the Patch issue a correction or will they stand by what they published. Surely the Patch recorded their conversation with Ms. Stadter, for support and reference.
Will Ms. Stadter issue a correction admitting she did not know what she was talking about, or will she claim she was misquoted?
This is a larger story than her bailing out at the last minute in a face to face debate!

Why is everyone getting upset about signs? When voters go to the polls and vote - that is when a final decision is made.

Candidates and supporters will great you at the polls even before you are handed a ballot. Therefore, until that point in time, any voter can change their mind.

If I were a candidate, I would knock on doors whether I saw a sign for my opponent or not. Further, of I were a voter with a sign in my yard, that doesn't mean I would not want to hear what the opponents have to say at a formal debate.

When you are filing for candidacy, the first thing you should do is be intelligent enough to not be afraid of speaking your mind on issues of importance and communicating with the residents. Further when you first feel that you can do something to help your community, you will be responsible for overseeing those who voted for you and those against you.

I would never let a sign for the opposition upset me. I think I could make better use of my time going forward and not backward.

Loaded words like "terrified" and "tree top fires"is more likely.

5:36 PM Anonymous - can you please explain what you mean? Maybe I am the only one who is confused but I don't understand where the words "terrified" and "tree top fires" come into this equasion. Thanks I would appreciate knowing where you are coming from and where you are going with your words.

Maybe the reason why the city administrator didn't attend is that she no longer works for the city.

5;36 PM Blogger: Words? Well isn't that the latest way your side is trying to 'spin' the fact that your people did not show?

Sorry but the fact still stands that other than "tree top fires," (that was a John Foote phrase to enlist support for the bridge to nowhere, remember?)

Your people didn't display enough courage of their convictions to attend the debate (terrified seems to fit here,) plain and simple, now 'spin that!.'

Careful Tom. I would not want to witness the spin they may create.

So where are these two missing candidates?

I certainly would not vote for the cowardly lions.

Tom, I want to thank you and the moderators for organizing the event. Once again, you have shown that you care for the community.

Tom,

Unfortunately, only you and I, and Martha, and Sandy use a distinct name. This makes it impossible to have a conversation, or follow a train of thought since all the other posters use the same name.

Maybe they could make up a fake name or something. That would make communicating easier.

It would have been better if all four candidates had attended.

However, I would like to point out that other than the three organizers, and the two candidates, there were about FIVE or SIX citizens, and a reporter. This is out of how many thousand registered voters??

1:23 AM Blogger: John, Crestwood has the largest case of "voter apathy" I have ever seen.

All we can do is offer the programs, they have to motivate themselves!

Thank you for taking the time to attend, and for your words of wisdom.

The best way to motivate the Crestwood voter is to propose a tax increase or promote a liquor license application with in shouting distance of their residences..then most of the ones who show up are in the 65 plus age group..

12:25 3/21/12 Well maybe you should be the one to "motivate" Crestwood - you know the 65 and over crowd!! You - who comments all over this blog, who loves to make smug remarks and hide behind your anonimity. Oh Yes - The Fanthom Blogger - the coward who loves to point fingers, make fun of our community - as long as he doesn't give his/her name. There is no room for people like you in Crestwood since you think you are so much better than - everyone - especially - you know - the 65 and over crowd.

I suggest if you think so little of Crestwood - if you live here - go elsewhere to live or just go take a long walk off of a short bridge.

There are people who love living here and since this blog is suppose to be used as a tool for good suggestions, honesty and harmony and discuss issues and problems - this is the last place you belong. Nobody is holding a gun to your head and making you live here. This is still a free Country, thus far!
