North Dakota sparks property tax "revolution!" This is interesting for several reasons.

For a number of different reasons this "new wave" of property tax protests have sparked a new beginning in the fight to keep the hard earned money instead of just handing it over to the Government to waste.

Right here in Crestwood we have seen the extension of "PROP S" without going to the voters for their approval (I would have voted to keep it.) Now we hear from the likes of Foote,Beezley and now candidates Tenneson and Stadter that "tax increases" are mandatory to save us!

Interesting that none of these fine folks are at all interested in an austerity program at City Hall, but rather the old saw, "tax increase." Please remember that we gave the City nine increases in ten years, and they seem to have squandered every last cent of it!

We have built $750,000.00 bridges that the public is not allowed to use, we paid Lord knows what for a web site that is dead slow, poorly laid out, and no one can navigate. Not to be outdone by? we have a $27,500.00 electric sign in front of City hall that well may cause an accident some day due to distraction.

Tax increase? Not on my radar until, and unless you show me some real cuts designed to put us on a "war footing" and stop the wasted spending in it's tracks!

Interestingly enough the site has been taken down since my original post this morning.

I believe you can "Google" it if you wish to read it for yourself.

Tom, so would I if I had a chance to vote on it. And I did not vote for it the first time! But...when was it extended and for how long? Thank you in advance for your information!

Here is another link to the story. I don't see how that is much of a revolution. The money has to come from somewhere. If you abolish property taxes, income or sales taxes will increase.

Also, while everyone complains about the website, I don't have a problem with it (although I also don't know what it costs). Finally, wasn't there some federal money that paid for all or a large portion of the Whitecliff bridge? It is still a wasteful project, but it might have been wasteful on a national level rather than a local level.

9:41 PM Blogger: It was to "sunset" in 2010-2011 however the Board voted (the usual suspects being in the majority) to "keep it until things got better."

Trust WHO? Please remember this on April 3, 2012 when you have the chance to put two fiscally responsible representatives on the Board in Ward's 2 and 4.

And no, their names do not begin with a "T" or a "S" (look at heir position papers, please.

11:44 PM Blogger: The web site was close to $10,000.00, and it's a mess compared to other Cities.

The "bridge to nowhere" did have some "Federal money" paid into it, but wait, the "Federal Money" came from US, the tax payers in the first place!

So it's no like it is "FREE MONEY" at all, cause "we paid for it."

"Not much of a revolution," correct, however all revolutions started with a spark from somewhere. I agree the money has to come from somewhere but why to WE pay for idiot projects and hand outs to those who will not work?

Hi Tom,

What's your feeling on the Affton fire district property tax increase on April 3rd ballot? I'm not sure if you live in the Affton fire district? But if you live in Crestwood you'll be paying for the $100k increase it if it passes. How does that work? How can you be taxed for something that you can't vote on? Was that right given up during annexation?

If the increase passes you will not have to pay it, just as you do not have to pay for your fire protection from fire district now if you live in what is called the annexation area. Those who live in that part of Crestwood who are covered by the district should be able to vote, but none of the others in Crestwood will be able to do so.
The best deal on real estate in South County is the annexed area of Crestwood, low property taxes, local police protection, and fire district protection, for which, you do not have to pay a dime.

3:41 PM Blogger: What are my feelings?Well for starters I am against the Afton FPD getting this passed. Why? Well it will take at least $100,000.00 out of the Crestwood coffers!

I bet he seniors in Ward Three annexed area didn't know that and neither did I up to this afternoon.

Sneaky way to get in our pocketbook if you ask me, so I suggest that you annexed area voters all vote no.
