I know that this sounds like a wonderful idea at first blush, but do you know that if passed, the TAX will cost Crestwood at least $100,000.00 per year in extra payments to the Fire District?
The annexed area has enjoyed one of the lowest property tax rates in the County, and rightfully so. However this TAX, if passed, will not be a benefit to you or the annexed area, but rather an extra TAX that ALL of Crestwood can ill afford.
Most of the Crestwood Citizens will have no say in the matter as the only voters that can vote on it are in the annexed area! I know that Seniors are concerned about matters relative to geriatric health, but this TAX is not going to benefit US (I am a senior also) one bit, quite the opposite, in fact it could cause US to loose some services at various Crestwood venues such as White Cliff Park.
Do the good citizens in the annexed area want that to happen? I really doubt that is the case. Please look at his from the viewpoint of a CRESTWOOD CITIZEN, and vote this down so we can enjoy all of Crestwood's amenities without worrying about what may closed next.

Is there not a way in which Crestwood could begin providing fire services to the annexed area? It seems to me that the Crestwood firehouse is closer to much of the annexed area than the Affton firehouses, especially Crestview Retirement Center and would provide a faster response time and potentially save the city $$$ if this passes.Anyone on the Fire Board want to address this?
Not with out the State law being changed.
As was said earlier, the best housing deal in south county may very well be that part of Crestwood that is called the annexed area...Very low property taxes, and the cost of the fire district protection is paid for by the City. Nothing wrong with this, it's just the way the law works.

Well were in a pot of trouble now, the thing passed!
Where do we start the cuts as we have to come up with $100,000.00 per year to fork over to Afton for services most of us will never see.

Mr. Ford,
There is only one way to rectify this situation and it is not anymore pleasant than a toothache. We currently have a 1/4 cent fire tax applied to all retail sales in Crestwood. Since our current Sales tax is already higher than most, we can't apply another tax on top of that. Even if we did, there aren't enough sales collected in Crestwood to offset the current payment to Affton FPD. The answer is we lower the sales tax by 1/4 cent and ask all citizens to pay an increase in there property taxes to cover the total payment now due to Affton FD. At least this way we know the additional Realestate tax we pay is going to fund fire service for residents and nothing else.

The residents who are covered by the fire district will be covered, but then I bet they will vote against an increase in property tax, wouldn't you if you were in their shoes?

No, what I am advocating is to save our city from the blight that is going to occur if we as citizens don't step up to the plate and pay our way.Otherwise, you will be looking at the next BlakJack or Pagedale.
8:22 PM Blogger: Blight? No the fact is that if were concerned about blight we should be issuing a summons to Crestwood Courts, and other vacant property owners to force them to maintain their property.
As you may know any property is going to further deteriorate unless it's occupied, and a summons will point out the fact that were serious about renovation and occupation or else.
Paying our way? Well you see the City has so much duplicate spending, extra personnel inflated salaries, and wasted use of vehicles (take home car for the Director of Public Works,) that there is plenty of room to save there before we grant another tax increase!
All this is hidden in plain sight if you wish to look for it, but it seems you, for whatever reason seem to think throwing more money at it will solve the problem.
Trust me, it will not as the old adage in politics is that "the need expands to fill the funding."
We have proved that here in the last nine tax increases, and I have no interest in making it ten!
Show me some real cost saving measures, some real reduction in spending, and a firm austere budget in place and then we will see if a tax increase is even necessary!

well we have "police districts" why not fire districts?...anything more dratic than a shoplifter caused the County to flood the scene anyway...
4:37 Tom you sound like my Dad when I asked him for more money in my allowance. He said when I see you save some and not spend it all, I will give you more money in your allowance!
