Crestwood Veterans display at Oak Bend Library for the Month of May.

With thanks to our resident historian Ms. Jackie Stock we have a memorial display to Crestwood veterans from Crestwood both living and past. If you have the chance to get there (Holmes and Big Bend behind the quick trip,) you will find it in the main lobby.

Jackie has spent a lot of effort making this happen and I would really appreciate it if you stop by and after you have viewed it, you send her a note of thanks.

While your at it please help us recognise the veterans who have given the final measure of devotion by signing a pledge card at City Hall to improve our memorial. Just visit the police department office and you will be given a card to pledge, or you may make a donation by cash or check to the veterans committee at the police department.

10:15 AM Blogger: Good eye Tim, she was refueling from the fleet oiler U.S.S. Mispillion off the coast of Viet Nam in the 60's.

It was typical to take on fuel oil and lube oil as well as 115/145 aviation gasoline. in one replenishment.

That was more dangerous than taking ammunition aboard as at least the bombs were not yet fused.

I just finished viewing the exhibit. What a fine collection. I bet the display was hard work.

Thanks Jackie.

Hi Steve,

I didn't get a chance to see the exhibit but I did see a picture of it. I am glad you gave Jacque the credit she deserves.

Jacque has always been a hard worker. She has always been a person who loves the history of this Country as well as memorabilia; she has also been a dedicated Crestwood resident who also knows the history of our city going back many, many years.

When she worked for Crestwood, she started and introduced recycling to this city - as well as creating the Recycling Center.

Back when it first started, Jacque went to all the local schools teaching our children the importance of recycling. This was before people knew that we were destroying the environment by throwing away our bottles, cans, cartons, paper, plastic, and etc. etc.

She was the person in charge and you could ask her any question about recycling, and she would know the answer. Her answers are realistic and she can tell you anything you need to know about it. She studied it and she has more knowledge than some environmentalists. She is just a natural because she loved what she did.

When she worked for Crestwood, I never saw a person work so hard in my life. She would create displays and show examples on big cardboard signs to illustrate the need and importance of recycling.

And still today, she never stops giving back to the community. You will see her at every board of aldermen meeting, as well as almost every meeting concerning Crestwood.

That is just a big part of her life, and she wouldn't have it any other way.

I am just saying.......
