Vietnam veterans of America chapter 1028 to rsise funds for Crestwood memorial.

On Saturday, July 14, 2012 the Vietnam veterans of America, Chapter 1028 will be at Shop & Save (Watson Rd. store in Crestwood) from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM to raise money for the renovation of the Crestwood veterans memorial stone located at City Hall.

Since your going to be out enjoying the cooler weather why not stop by and view the plans for the renovation and make a donation while you are picking up groceries at Shop & Save? A member of the Crestwood Veterans Committee will be on hand all day to explain the renovation and the reasons it is needed.

When you make a donation you will be helping crestwood and her veterans of all conflicts in this most important project. Please remember that your pledge or donation will be 100% used for this memorial as there are no hidden expenses to detour from it.

I will look forward to seeing you there as the Veterans Committee (Alderman John Foote, Aldermanic Representative) ET AL have worked very hard over the past two years to make this a reality (there are NO City funds involved in the project,) and they need your help to put it over the top!

As a life member of Vietnam Veterans Chapter 1028, I an very proud that my chapter has volunteered to work with the Crestwood Veterans Committee on Saturday, and I ask that we ALL make it a successful day for this outstanding project.

I applaud the objective. Achievement by begging ( holding your hand out for donations) for money is the wrong approach.

Could I stand out in front and beg for money to cover my mortgage? No.

8:31 PM Blogger: You can do whatever the Police department will allow you to do as far as I am concerned.

You should know however that every person who donates will receive an American flag. If that to you is "begging" I truly am sorry for you.

Come out to the Shop & Save store on Watson tomorrow from 9-5 PM and help Crestwood raise the Veterans Memorial to the place of honor it deserves.

It;s a win-win solution to all your needs, great prices on food and drink, meet your fellow Crestwoodians, and help the City in one fell swoop!

I hope to see you all there.

Thank you Tom and all the veterans for your service! We have what we have today because of you!

By the way, can contributions still be made at the police department? And how do we make the check payable to?

Another item: I ran across this site-postcards from 66. You can see Crestwood - Watson Road mainly - in the 60's and 70s. Very interesting!

As far as any further contributions to the memorial, they can be made at the Crestwood Police Department, or by contacting Ms. Connie Melching (Chief's secretary) for information.

If you would like to do so, you may also send them to Crestwood City Hall, Attn: Veterans Committee, #1 Detjen Dr.

The Crestwood Veterans Memorial Committee would like to thank the people from Chapter 1028, Viet Nam Veterans of America very much for helping us to raise money to improve the Memorial.

We would also like to thank Shop and Save for allowing us to do this at their store.

We were out there from nine to five, and it was sunny, and hot the entire time! All the people passing by were very nice, and friendly, and many donated to our project...we THANK THEM for helping our cause!

THANK YOU! From the Crestwood Veterans Memorial Committee.

"Achievement by begging ( holding your hand out for donations) for money is the wrong approach."

Actually, anybody who donated any amount (even a penny) got a small american flag, and if a parent who had two small kids donated, we gave each kid a flag.

Do you think asking for a tax increase to fund improvements is better?? We do not. In our founding principles it says we will not use any city money to accomplish our goals!

So perhaps you can tell us how we should be doing this?

"Could I stand out in front and beg for money to cover my mortgage? No."

Actually, you could go through all the steps we did: Fill out all sorts of forms for government agencies, provide lots of information, send all this to the proper places, wait quite a while for them to send you the forms, certifiates, and numbers, that you then provide copies of to the place you want to "beg for money" at and get their approval to do this on thir property.

Personally, I pay my mortgage, AND help raise money for this very good cause.

We will be anxiously waiting for you to tell us how we should be doing this properly!

BTW please include your name so we can give you credit.

Mr. Morisette,

Please clarify your comments. Who would say those things to someone raising money for a cause? I see no comments like that on this thread, so I am clearly not up to speed.

10;12 AM blogger; i will answer that for you. Please read the post of 8:31 PM Blogger (7/12) to understand what he said.

I myself responded to that one as I felt it was just a ridiculous remark to make, and I still do.

This is the problem caused by people who all use 'anonymous' for a name like you did. There is no way to respond directly to a specific comment.
If you go up to the second post, you will see the one I responded to.
I did quote the comments I responded to in my post so people would know what I was referring to, but I guess it didn't work in your case. I copied your entire post this time so you would know who I was responding to.

4:18 PM Blogger: I can't answer that as we have never asked them for permission. It would be a good place to raise funding as well however. Crestwood would like to put this memorial over the top by Veterans day this November, so maybe we could come back and help them do just that.

We do regularly visit Dierbergs, and Wall Mart (with their blessings) in west county for the Chapter fund raising.

I think it would be a good idea at this point to tell you that the VVA is a veteran service organization tha raises funding for projects such as The Fisher House, The USO, The Missouri Veterans Home, Camp Hope, and last year we helped fund the Cpl. Todd Nicely Home at Lake of the Ozarks.

We raised over $27,700.00 last year for veterans projects and spent more than $28,200.00 (YA, I KNOW WE NEED A NEW BOOK KEEPER.)

You will find us at the VA Hospitals veteran funerals,Honor guards, the Patriot Riders, and every Wednesday morning at 7:00 AM at the Grand Slam restaurant off HWY 30 in Burns Mill, MO (just west of the Bluffs) for breakfast, and planning sessions.

If you were, or you know someone who was A Vietnam veteran please join us for breakfast, or call me at 314-341-2307 for details on how to join the chapter, it's very rewarding, trust me.
