No question that the Call has some of the best "letters to the editor" around, but this one is outstanding!

Opinions

"Letter writer says he gives up, finally surrenders to the liberals"

February 13, 2013 - To the editor:

"There has been so much rhetoric on opposing views on what is good and right for our country.

I respectively submit to the liberals that perhaps I have been misguided and obviously, blatantly wrong.

We should outlaw:

• Traditional marriage and all opposition to abortion.

• Freedom to choose your own health insurance.

• Being an American-born citizen to be-come a U.S. president.

• Christians and Jews and buffets and obesity.

• The U.S. Constitution and the American blood-stained flag.

• High-capped magazines and all guns.

• The death penalty for heinous crimes and mass murders.

• Republicans and God-fearing values.

• Natural gas and coal.

• High school football and wrestling.

• A balanced U.S. budget and Fox News.

• Waterboarding, but more drone strikes.

• Photo identification cards for voting.

• Yard sales and flea markets.

• U.S. manufacturing and beer drinkers.

• Flannel shirts and denim blue jeans.

• The investigations on the Benghazi cover-up.

If you believe this, I'd like to sell you the Jefferson Barracks Bridge.

I believe in the teachings of our Lord God Jesus Christ, the U.S. Constitution and the preservation of all the ideals and principles upon which the United States of America was built.

Our flag is no symbol. It is a monument to the blood of the patriots who shed blood and sacrificed so much blood and love and even death for the freedom so many have taken for granted.

God bless the USA."

Mike "Grassroots" Povich

Festus

Mr. Povich is in the top three when it comes to providing us with the "tongue in cheek" description of the liberal mentality, and I for one love it!

Mr. Povich has, in one column explained to us why our modern day liberalism is imbecilic at best, and socialist at worst, (actually it's socialist, but whose counting?)

Now as for you flaming liberals out there, remember the one thing you must do here if you wish to insult (and you will because you have no facts,) and that is spell his (and my) name Correctly, and sign your real name, or it's the trash can with your drivel!

Well done Mr. Mike Povich, may you pen many more realism's, and may each liberal that reads them take twelve swollows to get their morning tofu down!

If you are referring to me, I made it in the initial thread. If not, well I guess the liberals are either sleeping, or can't refute the truth!

Top 10 statistics which show how the past 4 years of Obama have wrecked the US economy.

1. During Obama’s first term, the number of Americans on food stamps increased by an average of about 11,000 per day.

2. At the beginning of the Obama era, 32 million Americans were on food stamps. Today, more than 47 million Americans are on food stamps.

3. According to one calculation, the number of Americans on food stamps now exceeds the combined populations of “Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.”

4. The number of Americans receiving money directly from the federal government each month has grown from 94 million in the year 2000 to more than 128 million today.

5. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 146 million Americans are either “poor” or “low income” at this point.

6. The unemployment rate in the United States is exactly where it was (7.8 percent) when Barack Obama first entered the White House in January 2009.

7. When Barack Obama first entered the White House, 60.6 percent of all working age Americans had a job. Today, only 58.6 percent of all working age Americans have a job.

8. During the first four years of Obama, the number of Americans “not in the labor force” soared by an astounding 8,332,000. That far exceeds any previous four year total.

9. During Obama’s first term, the number of Americans collecting federal disability insurance rose by more than 18 percent.

10. The Obama years have been absolutely devastating for small businesses in America. According to economist Tim Kane, the following is how the number of startup jobs per 1000 Americans breaks down by presidential administration…

Bush Sr.: 11.3

Clinton: 11.2

Bush Jr.: 10.8

Obama: 7.8

Liberalism at it's best?

4:25 PM Blogger: I haven't looked into it yet, but what do you think?

It seems to me that obama and his regime have decided to pull the dollar (and the Nation) down to the poverty level so that ALL citizens will be dependent on the government to survive!

Numbers are what they are, numbers, and while numbers don't lie, liars can (and do) put out the numbers! Were very close to 17 trillion in debt thanks to obama, the Chinese are buying us up, and were not going to ever come out of this if it dosen't stop, NOW!

I am not following your train of thought. Your comment about liars...are you indicating that the numbers given in the 4:28 post are not true? They all seem to indicate that Obama is a horrible person, which seems to hold with your feelings, so what numbers are possible lies? No, I'm not being a smart alek I don't know what numbers you think might be lies.

7:37 PM Blogger: EVERY number out of the mouth of "Liar one" at the State of the Union was fabricated by his speech writers for the teleprompter.

Have you ever noticed that the number 100,000 seems to be bandied about by politicians? It's never true (100,000 cops on the street,) but they use it anyway.

If you want to come even close to REAL numbers you have to look at the CBO numbers (and even then wait till they are "adjusted" the following weeks or months.)

Thus ANY number coming out of the mouth of ANy Washington politician is not only suspect, it's a flat out lie, and they know it!

If you were told that 100,000 new jobs were created right here in Crestwood, would you believe it? Well, if you lived in Omaha, you just might, and so it goes, they can fool most of the people some of the time, and that's just enough to get their lying, for flushing assets elected!

Understand it a bit better know I hope?

7:32 PM Blogger: The post of 4:28 PM blogger is from all I can gather reflective of the adjusted CBO numbers, and thus is as true as any of us will ever be allowed to know.

Once again, obama's figures are not, and never have been true. In fact if that Chicago organ grinder tells you it's light outside, I recommend you go to the window and look for yourself!

A video by the CBO director, very telling! Please remember that the CBO is a non-partisan arm of the Congress (which is now in violation of the law for not having a budget!)

Wow, is Illinois and Chicago great or what?

Perhaps the U.S. should pull out of Chicago?

Body count: In the last six months
292 killed (murdered) in Chicago.

221 killed in Iraq AND Chicago has one
of the strictest gun laws in the entire US.

President: Barack Hussein Obama

Senator: Dick Durbin

House Representative: Jesse Jackson Jr.

Governor: Pat Quinn

House leader: Mike Madigan

Atty. Gen.: Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike)

Mayor: Rahm Emanuel

The leadership in Illinois - all Democrats.

Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago .

Of course, they're all blaming each other.

Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!

Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country.

Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!

State pension fund $78 Billion in debt, worst in country.

Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!

Cook County ( Chicago ) sales tax 10.25%
highest in country.

Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!

This is the political culture that Obama
comes from in Illinois.

And he is going to 'fix' Washington politics for us???

George Ryan is no longer Governor, he is in the big house. Of course he was replaced by Rob Blagojevich who is...that's right, also in the big house. And Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. resigned a couple of weeks ago. That is because he is fighting being sent to...that's right, the big house.

The Land of Lincoln, where our governors make our license plates.

But you know what?
As long as they keep providing entitlements to the population of Chicago, nothing is going to change, except the state will go broke before the country does.

What more can be said?!?!?! ....

(From a good friend and, down state Illinois citizen via email.)

11:11 Am Blogger: Congratulations, you completely missed the mark on this one!

The missive was in support of the Blogger of 4:35 PM who opined that ONE PARTY seems to have the handle on being losers>

However,I do not like Chicago, I would never go back to Chicago, I think the Cub's are a joke, the Mayor is a socialist criminal (it's criminal to allow 500+ Black children to be murdered,) and the price of everything is overboard, and you get nothing in return!

Next time please put on your thinking cap before you respond to what should have been the obvious.

Well, here's a few ideas your your little cap. There's nothing that can't be slanted to fit whatever agenda is at the forefront. For example, Which state has the lowest level of education in the country? Nevada. Who's the governor? Brian Sandoval. He's a Republican.
Which states have the highest poverty rate in the entire nation? Mississippi, Lousiana, Arizona, New Mexico. Who are the governors of those states? Every single one a Republican. Which states have the highest rates of incarceration? Lousiana, Alabama, Oklahoma. Once again, you guessed it, all with Republican governors. One of the highest rates of infant mortality in the nation is Mississippi, with...you guessed it again, a Republican governor. I guess it's also a crime that he personally allowed all those babies to die.
The point is that there are statistics out there that can be used for any point, any cause, any political discourse. Being rude to me because I question it doesn't change a darned thing or make your thinking cap any bigger. Railing about Chicago's crime rates is only moderately effective. Look at the states with the highest incarceration rates: all Republican run states. We assume the inmates are committing crimes and being put away for it, yet the numbers continue. Maybe you're right, maybe roaming bands of armed Republicans in the streets of these towns would change the statistics, but utilizing them to make a point about the second amendment and how they're "takin' mah gunz" only loses you points in the validity section.

11:59 AM Blogger: Excellent, now we know which side you fall on.

If you have been doing your homework and reading this Blog regularly you know that I have no real use for Republicans either.

I have said it before, end for your edification, I shall say it again, I am a Reagan Conservative!

The second Amendment (like the first) is held inviolate to me, and I have NOT railed about either one, have I.

I will say though that if you wish to wish to discuss one, you can't do it with out the inclusion of the other, now can you?

You see removing ANY part of it is a right only given to us via a Constitutional convention, and no one has suggested that yet, have they?

Take away high capacity whatever, take away high capacity hard drives, get it? No probably not.

You see the Founding Fathers could not have envisioned a high capacity magazine any more than they could have envisioned anything more that a quill pen!

There is one more thing I should mention to0 you when it comes to OUR Constitution, and that is.

" For those who fought for it, Freedom has a taste the protected will never know!"

Now perhaps you understand why it is I will never sit idly by and allow ANY party to defile, change, or disregard it!

I will tell you one thing though when it comes to democrats and republicans, they are both useless, however the democrats do work at it like artists in fine oils!

Remember, when you start to run out of ammo, and start to insult me, sign your name or save your manicure!

Tom Ford

very eloquent.
I did not insult you.
The founding fathers referred to bearing arms for a well regulated militia. Nothing about guns in this country is well regulated. At all. How is anything regulated when police are out-gunned in even a single instance? Of course enforcing the existing laws won't stop trafficking of illegal arms. But not enforcing them, as it is now, sure isn't helping. A gun that shoots 100 rounds simply shouldn't be in the hands of the average citizen, any more than grenades, missile launchers or flame throwers should. You can stand upon your pillar and shout that banning those types of guns affects your rights if you want, but I still want to know why you want one and what you'd do with it.
And quite frankly, the side I fall on is whatever side has some darned sense and doesn't run around like a chicken with no head over every little thing. I am still waiting for a party that fits that bill. The Republican side has lost their collective mind about guns, when really all that's proposed are things that wouldn't affect most citizens anyway. it has been a wild, over the top reaction, and your yelling about Chicago exemplifies it. It's a city. I gave you whole states to demonstrate that anything can be used to counter anything else and that just about anything can be used to slant figures and make a point.

1. You have no right to know who owns what, neither do I, so bad point.

2, The media is much more dangerous than the gun will ever be, and they have proven it with false reports on disasters, time and time again!

3. The Second Amendment has that pesky verse in it, "The right of the people to own firearms shall not be infringed!"

It is chapter and verse, it dosen't matter what you or I want it's the CONSTITUTIOM, and were not going to let it be ruined by anyone!

okay, way to completely miss my point. But you are right about the second amendment. I just can't help but wonder what the men who wrote it would have to say about the current level of firearms. So, are you also against enforcing the current laws, or is that alright by you?

5:22 PM Blogger: No, I didn't miss it, I took out the "fluff!"

Now as to "enforcing the current laws." You bet I am foe that, EVERY ONE of them. (Please read the Missouri charge code book for more info.)

My two sons are in law enforcement, and I spent 18 years as a commissioned LEO in North County, you bet I want the Current laws enforced!

Problem is, they are no being enforced! Just look at the Post Disgrace every morning, a person in Missouri who commits a crime MUST have a mandatory five years tacked on, does it happen, heck no!

Lawyers, courts, and penal institutions, all who could care less are allowing the criminals to plea bargain down to noisy muffler their most recent felony, so, fix that and were going to be along way toward getting the killings stopped!

How do you feel about that?
