City / County merge time ? No dice MCU !

http://www.callnewspapers.com/Articles-Opinions-i-2013-09-04-268681.112112-Plans-underway-to-put-citycounty-merger-on-ballot-as-soon-as-next-year.html

In a letter to the editor of the Call a South County resident explains some of the reasons why we should never, ever consider a merge between the County and the City of St. Louis.

Her points are valid to say the least, but did you also know that the City of St. Louis holds the position of second worst crime rate in the Nation per capita ?

That's right, number two due to the day VS night population of St. Louis, and it's crimes per 100,000. A wonderful number to have indeed, and now some would have us merge ?

The merge faction knows two things that some of us apparently do not, that being, if it were to happen they would go from number two to number 97 which would help them lure businesses away from the County, and then there is the tax money they want to grab as well.

Do we need to merge ? No we do not, should we even consider such a move, no we should not, and to that end may I suggest that the MCU and it's minions go back to church on Sundays and leave the politics alone (separation of church and state, right liberals ?)

The anti-merger people sound a little bit like chicken little. Most people's lives won't change one bit if the county lines dissolve.

Look at the Western side of the state with Jackson County (containing Kansas City). It is very comparable to St. louis--KC has a nice downtown, nice areas, and ghettos. The suburbs are generally richer, nicer, and have less crime. However, having Jackson County include KC hasn't affected the viability of the KC suburbs.

Look at the tax savings due to removal of redundant services--one circuit court, one sheriff, one assessor, one recorder of deeds, one county health department, one IT department, etc.

If the city comes back as a municipality, they will maintain their own police, fire, building department, and the like.

I don't think its as big of a deal as most people think.

The far more pressing issue is the city schools, and the potential of tens of thousands of kids transferring to county districts if they lose their accreditation next year--that has nothing to do with the merger though.

I won't vote for any merger, but with King Rex's money behind it (Oligarchs are people my friend...LOL) I'd think it stands a half decent chance. Plus if it is voted down, what's to say that a court won't just order it, like they do with everything else in the "land of the free"?

Heck, Francis Slay is twice the leader Charlie Dooley is (although the bar is admittedly very low).

How would a merger make my life better in Crestwood?

How would a merger make life better in St. Louis, City?

So who supports this?

Tom,

Your anti-TIF messiah Rex Sinquefield is the big proponent...not the "minions" of MCU.

It's fun to witness the bewilderment of right-wing minions, when they realize that their plutocratic-libertarian heroes are willing to toss them under the buss with everyone else.

All most as much fun as watching the extreme left wing nut jobs try to blame each of Obama's failures on someone else?

Get off your political platforms - this heading is suppose to be about city/county merger. Get with the program an stop making everything about party politics. It has nothing to do with the subject heading! Put an advertisement in the paper telling everybody what you read, heard, or said about politics, political parties, etc. It doesn't belong on this thread.

You bet I am! I am sick and tired of people who get on each other's backs arguing one party over the other. It doesn't do any good and they will argue about it til the cows come home and you solve nothing. People who vote party over people are thick headed and you can save yourself lots of aggravation if you just shut the xxxx up. Your party people will always walk on water no matter if they go to church every day or commit murder on a regular basis.

How's this work,

I think the merger idea of the City/County sucks, because it will give the Democratic party even more power.

That work for ya?

you have a point. Of course, you could cover that up with a well placed hat....

11:21 Thought so! I new there would have to be a party connection of some sort. I on the other hand am against it because I want Crestwood to solve its financial problems and I don't want Crestwood to be dissolved. We have problems but I want us to work together as a city and solve them. We can withstand this crisis.

Party politics has nothing to do with how I feel.

So put that in your pipe and smoke it. How's that?
