Well, as the system exists now, the health-insurance racket is more than happy to collect premiums from younger folks who don't really pose that much of a loss risk for them.

When those younger folks become older folks at 65, then the for-profit health insurance racket is more than happy to let the government assume the risk for those older folks who are likely to need expensive medical attention.

Having the government Medicare program for seniors guarantees the profitability of the health insurance racket.

I happen to think the system as it is now is nothing more than corporate welfare for the health insurance racket.

I don't mean to be against Medicare, in fact I think it's a great program, and I'd much rather see us spend money on it than on pointless-endless-bankrupting wars and playing cop of the world.....but I digress.

If I had my way Medicare would be available for all, and nearly free for folks over 65 as it is now, and it would be free for those in poverty.

Until then, I'm very glad to see "Obamacare" implemented, and shame on the horse's behind of leadership that controls the Missourah state legislature.

Who is going to pay for the "nearly free" Medicare for folks over 65 and free for those in poverty?

Should people under 65 who are healthy and have an income above the poverty line assume this responsibility?

92 percent of the public does not think it is right that Congress and their staff are letting the Obama administration exempt them from the costs of Obamacare.

Unions aren't happy with Obamacare either. Must have finally read the bill and now know what's in it.

"Who is going to pay for the "nearly free" Medicare for folks over 65 and free for those in poverty?...Should people under 65 who are healthy and have an income above the poverty line assume this responsibility?"

Good question, and the short answer is yes. To which I would add that those same people are paying for it now.

I won't debate my personal view on providing for the poor, and I don't subscribe to the libertarian philosophy of letting private charity do it, or not.

Regarding young, healthy, prosperous people supporting Medicare for seniors, well that is how it works now....But who benefits from that?

The 65+ seniors certainly do, but remember that they've already supported the generations that enjoyed Medicare benefits and rates before them.

But who else benefits greatly from Medicare that hasn't paid a dime to support it? That would be the for-profit health-insurance-corporations who are allowed to skim the cream from health insurance revenue, and get fat off of corporate welfare by having Medicare inherit the unprofitable side of life's spectrum.

The good news is that most hospitals now have private rooms, they that would prevent folks who wear "taxpayer" on their sleeves from having to share a room with someone they would likely view as unworthy.

WASHINGTON — A "family glitch" in the 2010 health care law threatens to cost some families thousands of dollars in health insurance costs and leave up to 500,000 children without coverage, insurance and health care analysts say.

That's unless Congress fixes the problem, which seems unlikely given the House's latest move Friday to strip funding from the Affordable Care Act.

Congress defined "affordable" as 9.5% or less of an employee's household income, mostly to make sure people did not leave their workplace plans for subsidized coverage through the exchanges. But the "error" was that it only applies to the employee — and not his or her family. So, if an employer offers a woman affordable insurance, but doesn't provide it for her family, they cannot get subsidized help through the state health exchanges.

That can make a huge difference; the Kaiser Family Foundation said an average plan for an individual is about $5,600, but it goes up to $15,700 for families. Most employers help out with those costs, but not all.

"We saw this two-and-a-half years ago and thought, 'Has anyone else noticed this?'" said Kosali Simon, a professor of public affairs at Indiana University who specializes in health economics. "Everyone said, 'No, no. You must be wrong.' But we weren't, and that's going to leave a lot of people out."

The issue has recently received attention, especially after former president Bill Clinton highlighted it in a recent speech.

"The family glitch is definitely a drafting error that Congress made that needs to be fixed," said Joan Alker, executive director of the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families. "But that seems unlikely."

New rules state that those families will not be penalized for not purchasing coverage, but the point of the law was to make coverage affordable for families.

Other challenges for families remain as the Obama administration and the health care industry gear up for the Oct. 1 opening of the exchanges, websites for each state on which customers can shop for and buy health insurance. The law requires uninsured Americans to buy health insurance; many are eligible for government subsidies to help them for the policies. For example:

• Kids may not receive Medicaid or exchange coverage if their parents aren't eligible and, therefore, don't know to check.

• Undocumented immigrants may not learn their children are eligible for insurance.

The law has already helped children, Alker said, because it "stabilizes Medicaid and CHIP," the insurance program for children.

However, 70% of uninsured kids are eligible for Medicaid and CHIP, but they're not all enrolled, she said.

"There has to be a lot of outreach and education about the importance of getting health care," she said. "These kids could enroll today."

If congressional Republicans were to succeed in cutting funding for the law, the CHIP program would expire in October, said Bruce Lesley, president of First Focus, a bipartisan advocacy group for families.

The Children's Health Insurance Program provides insurance for kids whose family incomes are too high for Medicaid, but whose families still can't afford coverage. The Affordable Care Act extended it for two years, which means as many as 6 million children have health care.

Eliminating money for the law would force states to rethink their children's programs quickly, Alker said.

and so that we're clear, having to "rethink their children's programs would be bad.

Obama on Obamacare: “We did raise taxes on some things.”
And by “some things,” he means uninsured families, medical devices, workplace flex accounts, small businesses, Health Savings Accounts, savings income, uni

During his Tuesday remarks at the Clinton Global Initiative, President Obama admitted that his health care law raises taxes: “So what we did — it’s paid for by a combination of things. We did raise taxes on some things.”

“Some things” is an understatement. Below is just a partial list of Obamacare’s new or higher taxes on Americans:

Starting in tax year 2013:

Obamacare Medical Device Tax: Medical device manufacturers employ 409,000 people in 12,000 plants across the country. Obamacare imposes a new 2.3 percent excise tax on gross sales – even if the company does not earn a profit in a given year. In addition to killing small business jobs and impacting research and development budgets, this will make everything from pacemakers to artificial hips more expensive.

Obamacare High Medical Bills Tax: Before Obamacare, Americans facing high medical expenses were allowed a deduction to the extent that those expenses exceeded 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income (AGI). Obamacare now imposes a threshold of 10 percent of AGI. Therefore, Obamacare not only makes it more difficult to claim this deduction, it widens the net of taxable income.

Obamacare Flexible Spending Account Tax: The 30 - 35 million Americans who use a pre-tax Flexible Spending Account (FSA) at work to pay for their family’s basic medical needs face a new Obamacare cap of $2,500. This will squeeze $13 billion of tax money from Americans over the next ten years. (Before Obamacare, the accounts were unlimited under federal law, though employers were allowed to set a cap.) Now, a parent looking to sock away extra money to pay for braces will find themselves quickly hitting this new cap, meaning they would have to pony up some or all of the cost with after-tax dollars.

Obamacare Super Saver Surtax: A new, 3.8 percent surtax on investment income earned in households.(Bill: Reconciliation Act; Page: 87-93)

Obamacare Medicare Payroll Tax Increase:
Starting in tax year 2014:

Obamacare Individual Mandate Non-Compliance Tax: Starting in 2014, anyone not buying “qualifying” health insurance – as defined by President Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services -- must pay an income surtax to the IRS. The Congressional Budget Office recently estimated that six million American families will be liable for the tax, and as pointed out by the Associated Press: “Most would be in the middle class.”

In addition, 100 percent of Americans filing a tax return (140 million filers) will be forced to submit paperwork to the IRS showing they either had “qualifying” health insurance for every month of the tax year or they obtained an exemption to the mandate.

(Delayed by Obama to 2015) Obamacare Employer Mandate Tax: If an employer does not offer health coverage, and at least one employee qualifies for a health tax credit, the employer must pay an additional non-deductible tax of $2,000 for all full-time employees. This provision applies to all employers with 50 or more employees. If any employee actually receives coverage through the exchange, the penalty on the employer for that employee rises to $3,000. If the employer requires a waiting period to enroll in coverage of 30-60 days, there is a $400 tax per employee ($600 if the period is 60 days or longer).

Obamacare Tax on Health Insurers: Annual tax on the industry imposed relative to health insurance premiums collected that year. The tax phases in gradually until 2018. Fully imposed on firms with $50 million in profits.

Starting in tax year 2018:

THE SKY IS FALLING!

Last year, Big Bird’s job security was thrust into the political spotlight.

This year, it’s his health insurance.

In a letter sent last week to President Obama, U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick contended that the Affordable Care Act had caused Sesame Place, one of Bucks County’s biggest tourist attractions, to terminate health benefits for its part-time employees.

“This law is hurting real people in my district and around the country,” the Bucks County Republican wrote.

A spokesman for SeaWorld, the amusement park’s parent company, confirmed Wednesday that the company was cutting the weekly work limit for part-time employees from 32 to 28 hours. Under the Affordable Care Act, companies can face fines if they do not provide insurance for staffers who work at least 30 hours per week.

Fred Jacobs, the SeaWorld spokesman, did not say whether the change in policy had been prompted by the health-care law.

“The move is intended to bring consistency to the part-time designation across the SeaWorld Parks system,” Jacobs wrote in an statement.

Washington DC Crew is doing what they do best - vote party politics - and do not care about what happens to us who are caught in the middle. They will not under any circumstance come together. The "party" is more important than the people they govern.

Just as our board of aldermen do on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month. It's insane! Cutting off their nose to spite their face seems to be the new "norm".

One thing I will never see in my lifetime is this.....the two-party system will never, ever, come to an agreement with one another. This can be written down in the history books of the United States of America. There will never be a Republican who agrees with a Democrat or a Democrat who will agree with a Republican, no matter who makes the most sense. It just ain't never gonna happen! So therein lies the problem. And to make sure it is deeply engraved in the hearts and minds of it's people, they go as far as shutting down the dang government.

And we all thought that our economy was turning a corner. Just in time to shut down the positive vibs about the economy coming back - if only just a little! Talk about timing!!!!

And do the morones in Washington understand that this shutdown is making this country go backwards instead of forward? The answer is, they don't care because they are too busy playing politics and the blame game. Do they care what it will do to us - NO!

Just like Crestwood, we are being held hostage while the political party parade just has us by our neck biting down on us like a pit bull and we are helpless to set ourselves free.

And so it goes. In the meantime, nothing is happening in Crestwood and nothing is happening in our Country. But standing still and being shut down costs money. But at the cost of who? Our U.S. Senate and House representatives know their political parties will take care of them. They stick with each other like glue no matter what happens. They will go to the grave for each other. And so....we, the taxpayers and citizens of this country are not "first" in their minds. We don't count - only on election day.

Every day a decision is not made, we loose money; every day Crestwood doesn't move on the Mall, we go backwards! Wow! I can't believe it. So, we, the people, mean nothing.

And what does all of this hostility bring to the table Tom? Nadda! What does it create but more of the same. So what you are telling everyone is that all this in-fighting is worth the fact that nothing is being done to settle the important issues. And you are happy about that?

So what you are saying is that it is worth keeping us, the people in the middle of chaos, and that shutting down the government is the right thing to do? Then you think that it is not going to affect our already fragile economy? So for the sake of who and what do you feel this in-fighting is helping the American people?

You accuse the Pres. of being on the side of his brotherhood. What brotherhood are you with Tom? The brotherhood of your party, that's what. It seems it is your party or nothing! Just think, you should join all of your brotherhood members of Congress who don't give a darn about us. They all have the same attitude while we sit here and suffer. They would welcome you with open arms.

You blame the Pres. for doing the same thing you do every time you speak. You and all who play party politics are to blame (on both sides) for getting nothing done. And the same goes for all DIE IN THE WOOL party people Dems and Rep.

We are stuck with this Dem. President, and it is not OK with you at all. So while trying to make an example of him, you and those congressional delegates who are angry because he was elected in the first place are going to teach him a lesson; but what you are really doing is cutting us all off at the knees. So what good is this shut down going to bring to us - the people in the middle? Our economy will be back to nothing again.
