The "big dig" on Spellman Ave. (or when do we do fill in the holes we made ?)

I don't know how many of you have had the dis-pleasure of driving on Spellman Ave. over the last Month but if you haven't please allow me to "fill in" the blanks for you.

Spellman Ave. is to be up-graded with new sidewalks, sewer pipe, water lines and resurfacing, or so the story goes.

What we have seen so far is our natural gas lines cut not once, but twice which required the full Fire Department to stand by while repairs were made. The street is a partially navigable path with ruts, holes, and cross cuts from side to side that will one day (if not filled in) cause an accident, flat tire, the need for front end alignment, axel break, or all of the above to any vehicle you may have in your driveway.

I have sent emails to the Aldermen in Ward Two requesting the Public Works Department come to the site and require the contractor to fill in the ruts and pot holes (dug by the contractor) with gravel to level them with the street. I know that it's not feasible for the contractor to asphalt them, but every time it rains, the earth settles a bit more, and the deeper the holes become.

Now, if you, like I am at a loss as to why the gravel can't (or won't) be spread in these man made holes, and your sick of the possibility of damage to your vehicle every time you leave home, will you please join me in contacting our Ward Two Alderman, the City Administrator, and Mayor Roby and ask (as have I) why in the name of all common sense this very minor repair can't be done, and SOON.

If you wish, I will make myself available to meet you at City Hall and we will take our concerns to them in person, but for the sake of all, let's get this done before it's too late !

Have the aldermen or city attorney or public works director (acting) check the contract. There should be some provisions about what condition the street is to be left during construction.

Update as of 1:00 PM this date the contractor was filling in the ruts, pot holes and assorted tank traps on Spellman Rd Rd !

Well done to both Alderman in Ward two as well as our City Administrator Mr. Mark Sime (and whomever else) for interceding for us before a wreck happened !

Well done !
